Last night of the Metamatic Tour

Hi everyone

We know a few people are disappointed that they haven't been able to get into the ICA show as it sold out a couple of months ago. So, as the Cargo show on Monday 8 October will also be the last time that John Foxx performs the Metamatic set in the UK we've decided to make it a very special night. I'll be able to announce more next week but the plan is that there will be films/multi-media stuff/projections etc and new collaborations that will be different to the ICA. We just felt that we should end the tour with something a bit special so there won't be a support act at Cargo, we'll be taking over the whole night again though I promise it won't finish in the early hours of morning! As I say, we'll have more details including stage times etc very soon.

CARGO, 83 Rivington Street, Kingsland Viaduct, Shoreditch, London EC2A 3AY

Also, some people have been asking about the availability of the Retro Future and Metal Beat CDs. We'll be selling them on the tour and then online afterwards. We may make a few available in specialist shops but the plan is that we're limiting both releases to 1000 copies each. Hopefully at some point we will make Retro Future available as a digital download but once the initial 1000 CDs are sold that will be it. The idea behind this is that John is coming up with so much great stuff at the moment that we want to make it available to you without flooding the market. Also, we want each release to feel - that word again! - special. Obviously John comes up with all the images for the artwork as well as the music and so the physical CD is a unique, complete package all dreamt up by one brain! I think that's one of the things that is particularly exciting about John's work so we do want to continue to release these CDs. But many of them will be more closely related in spirit to limited runs of art prints than the world of mass market CDs in Tescos . . Later these ltd edition releases will be digitised and made available on the internet. As long as the quality is good, the number of these ltd editions could be as many as five or six in a year - certainly at the moment ideas are flowing thick and fast and there's actually quite a lot of music that has already been recorded for release. The odd thing is that although there's a lot of stuff coming out, often John lives with the material for quite a long time, making adjustments until he's happy. Sometimes this can take years. By the way, these limited runs won't apply to all releases - there will still be some 'frontline' campaigns with full distribution, press campaigns etc - just like Metamatic at the moment of course.

See you on tour

Metamatic t-shirts

Just taken delivery of the John Foxx 'Metamatic' t-shirts so they will be available at the ICA tomorrow. They're all in black, XL, L & M and are based on the noir-ish, 'shutter' image in the centre of the new Metamatic booklet. Except you can see more of the whole photo. They'll be available at the shows and later on-line for £15.

I also forgot to mention that John will be concentrating on new music and the next set of re-issues - The Garden, a new Best Of etc - next year so there are no plans for any 'conventional' 'electro' shows until late 2008 at the very earliest. We are however in talks over various 'art' events, multi-media 'happenings', film screenings and so on to tie in with the release of new collaborative material with Steve Jansen, Harold Budd and Robin Guthrie - in addition to the ever-evolving Tiny Colour Movies and Cathedral Oceans projects.

Thanks,

Steve

eek Blimey! eek Activity! eek And I thought the last two years had been busy! Once again - thanks for all this Alex.

So another Best Of? I hope this one concentrates on 1997 onwards as Assembly / Modern Art fairly encompassed the back catalogue quite well.

And the Guthrie/Jansen/Budd/Foxx collaboration finallly sees light at the end of a very long tunnel - this is the one I'm really looking forward to!

We'll need a Metamatic Shop soon...either that or I could just happily hand Rob all my credit card details! laugh

Steve Jansen - as in JBK - Jansen, Karn and Barbierri - three quarters of the band Japan. Well worth checking out some of their material...

Well with so much going on I'm getting dizzy!!!

1000 CD's isn't a lot. I'm sure they'll soon get snapped up with all the shows that are coming along.

Thanks Alex for the link and I've been away from my PC for only 3 hours and all this news as happened.
