Well posted Birdsong, and particularly for those of us that were old enough to have bought it in its time
Can't say I recall where I purchased my copy from (still have it, still in fairly good nick). I probably got it from HMV in Glasgow town centre, but I get this nagging feeling that it may have been from a small independent shop that briefly flourished for a time nearer to my home.
What I will always remember very clearly is being a teenager and hearing it on an evening radio show on its release, it just seemed to come from out of nowhere, I'd never heard anything just so... perfect.
By that time I'd already heard the rhythmic sophistication of Kraftwerk and the pulsing clash of Numan, but
Underpass really was like the sound of a dystopian future being beamed through space to us in all its gritty, crashing, twisting, and euphoric glory.
(and its quite an iconic sleeve cover, well, for us fans at any rate)
