He might have been confused.
I saw him on Sounds Unlimited being interviewed by Donnie Sutherland. John said he was out reconnoitering. This was in late '83.
I know this because I took a photo of the TV screen. The processing date on the slide says DEC 1983. I usually got my stuff processed quickly so he was either here in November or December of that year.
I asked him about this while he was autographing my poster. He said he and the band were in Japan when someone suggested he go to Australia to do some promo work.
He told me he went to Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane and did some radio and TV interviews.
He did remark after TCM how much Sydney had changed. Regardless, it was great to finally see him live. [/b]No, it wouldn't have been John who was confused, it would have been me misunderstanding his answer to my question. When he said he hadn't been to Australia for 20 years, I presumed he was referring to
The Golden Section tour in 1983, which I thought must have actually played in Australia. He said he didn't actually play in Australia, he just did some radio shows. I thought he was referring to 1988, which I know is three years after his last album, but he
was obviously referring to 1983. My mistake ... I'm not that up-to-speed with John's gigography history.
Regardless, I'm glad that he and Louis were able to make the trip in 2008. It's never too late to catch up.
Cheers ...
P.S. Thank you very much for your photo collection, too! I'm glad that someone there was able to document the gig properly. That is, until the John Foxx & Louis Gordon
Australian Tour CD gets released! What will they call that one,
Travel perhaps?
