Who else is shedding a tear at their demise ?
I recall buying "The Golden Section" there a quarter of a century ago

I used to love their cheap cassette offers too Thanks to "Woolies " I got into Curve and Carter USM too

Anyone else got Woolworths music stories to add ?

PS (having seen Gary's post below) the Yume's "Sound of the Crowd " 7 inch vinyl too !

Hi Ivan
In my opinion Woolworth;s lost their way in the last couple of years. I hardly brought any music from them. They only seemed to stock the current releases. They seemed more interested in selling childrens toys at the death.

Now I'm giving my age away but I remember being able to buy loose biscuits and broken biscuits eons ago.

Will I miss Woolies - No

Zavvi - Yes

Peter

yes they are.

bit of a knock on effect of Woolworths online side closing.

I went in Zavvi a few weeks ago.First time since they changed name from Virgin.
Prices were all a rip off.
They were not even trying to compete.

A few years ago I would miss them but now the Internet has taken over too much.

I too mourn the passing of Woolworths.
An institution that will be sadly missed. frown

In days of yore I used to regular pick up ex-chart vinyl in the bargain bin with my pocket money/shop wages etc

It was thanks to Woollies that I 'discovered' Thomas Dolby - I bought Europa and the Pirate Twins for 79p just because I liked the cover!!! wink

Never was a Woolies man myself, and can't remember buying any records of note from them. Now if it was WH Smith or Boots.....

But obviously it's a shame to see it go both as an institution and as an economic unit, job losses etc. Very sad sign of the times I'm afraid.

Just got back after a nice long break.A week's cross country skiing in French Alps followed by a week in Blighty Obviously paid my last respects to Woolies snapping up THE BACK ROOM THE EDITORS for 6 nicker and THE BEST OF JAMES for 2 30 ! My peregrinations then took me to the Liverpool branch where I picked up SQUEEZE THE COLLECTION for 1 pound 50 new pee plus WOSSELL BWAND'S BOOKY WOOK for 2 quid (excellent reading on train back from Nice ) The Bootle branch was a picture of desolation itself All chained up with one of those guerney things showing through the shop window on sale for 25 pound with mobile contact number !
I finish with a musical tribute to this dear departed institution Best spot of trumpet playing since the brass band on BeBop Deluxe's "Music in Dreamland " smile

Yup couldn't resist checking out the local Woolies too during my brief sojourn in Blighty.

One word: desolation.

One question: but where will one buy one's cheap toys now down the proverbial high street?
