Do you have a track playing in your head right now? Sometimes I will sit in a dark room and select a track from memory and just drift away in my own cerebral jukebox. Have you done the same? I find it extremely relaxing and therapeutic. smile

Some tracks when they get nto my head I keep singing them over and over again. So I'm not mad?

The worst thing is, for those of us with children, when it's a kids' song or something.
Just last week I cycled to work with the Thomas The Tank Engine Theme tune going round in my head!

I think I only hummed it a hundred times or so in the office…

That must have derailed your train of thought. Oh but how I can relate to this particular distraction and I usually intercept it with a track from " The Pleasure Principle " or something by John Foxx- 20th Century works well for me...

Well, today, there I was sat at my desk at work, quietly singing 'Endlessly' from start to finish. My colleague intervened at one point and asked me what I was singing. When I told her she said 'Who? Never heard of him'! I ignored her for the rest of the day, disgusted at her ignorance! Some people have no taste..!! laugh

Don't worry Sarah you're not alone. I have to explain to people who JF is. I usually say have you heard of Ultravox and then I say JF was their lead singer before MU. Some people are still none the wiser.

I was singing The Laughing Gnome in my head last night by Bowie. I have just brought his album London Boy and that song is on it. When it gets in your head it's hard to shake off.

Ever tried wandering into Woollies and asking for a Foxx & Gordon album?
I don't recommend it.
The PFY suggested Foster and Allan....

Hi Sarah,

You are not alone. A snapshot of a pub conversation last summer;

'John Foxx'
'Who?'
'John Foxx'
'Never heard of him.'
'Metamatic? One of the first British electronic pop albums?'
'Don't know it. I do like that really early electronic stuff though, like Orbital...'

Jesus wept... mad

You know I do my best to spread the word about John's music, but it is so amazing how many people don't know who he is!

They don't know what they're missing out on do they?!! laugh

I'm sitting at home today, had a day off. Trying to be creative with the old synth - I'll have to let you guys have a listen when I get some stuff together!! You'll probably be horrified!! eek

You're so right Sarah. People don't know what they are missing. There again John didn't want fame and glory so I guess we're lucky that we know about him.

In the ten and a half years of following john ive lost count the amount of times ive had to explain who john is. Its a really nice surprise when you get the odd person who has heard of him.

I have to admit though, I enjoy being able to tell people who John is. The fact that a lot of people don't know his work, kind of makes being a FoxxFan feel a bit more exclusive... unfortunately for some fanatics, it makes you too protective and obsessive of an artist, but at best, it's a bit like knowing a best-kept secret!

Am I making sense?!

i still remember the very strange & totally surprised look on the face of the guy in my local record store way back in 1981 , when i wanted to buy john's "the garden" album - i was jus' 13 years ol' then & spent my whole pocket money on that vinyl copy ... sadly without "the church" booklet , which i've got for xmas ( so to say ;-) last year from a very kind fan of john , who had some spare things of mr. foxx to part with ! :-)

"full circle" ... 25 years later ! ;-)

I've just had a tel. con. with a customer and he said that he lived on Canvey Island, so asked if he remembered Fad Gadget's 'Back to Nature', as it mentions 'caravan on Canvey sands'. He said he did and passed a rude comment about them, and when I asked him if he knew JF he said yes!! He went on to say that JF was the original singer in Ultravox and that he remembered Underpass!! At last - someone who doesn't say "WHO?"

Well, here's a thing in a similar vein.
Downstairs from my office is a 'streetwear' store, called Tripp Records who stock a few bits of vinyl and loads of tapes. Mainly hip/trip hop, drum'n'bass stuff of the kind enjoyed by younger people…

They have a vinyl copy of Crash and Burn in stock!!
Always amazes me that in fact John Foxx might have more of a presence than we sometimes think.

But I agree that 99.99999% of the time, no-one has heard of him
