No doubt this topic has already been raised elsewhere on this forum, but I can't find it, so:

The latest MySpace blog mentions that there will be some CDs available on the current tour.

These include "Metal Beat", and "Retro-Future".
Retro-Future is from the Live 1998 exotour, and Metal Beat is 1979/80, Metamatic-era demos and "studio experiments".

These CDs will be more widely available after the tour. (Presumably means Townsend records).

You can count me in for both.

(As I will not be attending any of the shows..)

Whaaaaaaaaaaat! MORE Foxx CDs!!! laugh

GET IN! laugh

I never saw that one coming - fantastic news! Just what I need to feed my current 'Metamatic' addiction...which isn't that different to the 'Metamatic' addiction I've had over the last 20-odd years!

Peter - I bet you're pleased John's named an album after you! wink

I like the artwork for both, especially for 'Metal Beat'. The cover for 'Retro Future' looks more in the 'From Trash' / 'Sideways' era than 'Shifting City' / 'Exotour' times.
Its a great way to start the morning with this kind of news!! laugh

"Retro Future is an eleven track CD which was recorded live at the Shrewsbury Music Hall on the 10th of January 1998 as part of the Exotour."

I'm perplexed...hasn't the Exotour live CD already been released 3 times in different formats? Or were they "studio live" versions and therefore the same songs but different performances to the forthcoming Retrofuture release?

Retro Future was recorded at the Shrewsbury Music Hall as opposed to the previous Exotour CDs which were recorded 'live in the studio'.

Just viewed the artwork for both cds & I think the Retro Future one is the best I've ever seen.

I better hold on to my excitement. I can hear a circuit fizzing laugh

That will teach me not to click through.

Excellent covers.

RetroFutures looks a bit like Sideways with a Million cars in the background.

I think I shall have to get 'Retro Future'. After all, I was there at Shrewsbury in '98. smile However, the set was precisely the same and in the same order as 'Omnidelic Exotour', with the exception that 'Here We Go' was played at Shrewsbury. 'Subterrainian Omnidelic Extour' is the same tracks and running order as 'Omnidelic Exotour' except it doesn't include 'Dislocation' and there are differing versions of a few songs, such as 'The Quiet Men' and 'The Noise'. 'Omnidelic Exotour' has the better versions in my opinion.

So it will be intriguing to hear that show again after nearly a decade, though even many who weren't there will get a strong sense of deja vu.

...and John probably has been reading carefully Birdsong's prose on this Forum. "Retro Future" is from Martin's lexicon.

My guess is that it'll be the same distribution A Room As Big as a City got in North America. Which is pretty much none, I believe.

Any news on availability for us non-attendees at all?

Yes. In the news section, Rob wrote the following - I guess once he knows the wider distribution, we all will.

Quote:
Please note that there are plans to make both of these CDs more widely available once the tour is over so that anyone who's not able to get to any of the shows will be able to buy them without having to pay 'over the odds'. As usual, I'll post specific details just as soon as they've been confirmed.
All the best,

EG

Very very cool - I love the description of "Metal Beat" 's contents (the album, although the person has some cool contents too!) and the sleeve for "Retro Future" is beautiful, up there with the best of them. I love the sleeve to "Sideways" but there is something about the green face that puts me off very slightly, I don't know why that should be ...

Btw, hope there will be some left in Brighton - keep a few back Rob will you? wink

Also, some people have been asking about the availability of the Retro Future and Metal Beat CDs. We'll be selling them on the tour and then online afterwards. We may make a few available in specialist shops but the plan is that we're limiting both releases to 1000 copies each. Hopefully at some point we will make Retro Future available as a digital download but once the initial 1000 CDs are sold that will be it.
so it seems it won't be that easy to get these at least here. would it be possible for someone attending gigs to buy me copies of these? i'd of course pay all the expensies...
