Metamatic Forums John Foxx Ultravox 1973 or 74?

I read in some webs John came to London in 1974 to attend art school and he formed the same year (shortly afterwards) Tiger Lily, while Warren Cann joined by May 1974. A very short time, what do you think?

In other pages he came to L and formed TL in 1973. I think John had more time to do that things.

According to this their first single as Tiger Lily came out in '75.

Warren is quite adamant that they became a band when he joined in May-ish of 1974. However, I don't know exactly when Dennis Leigh and Chris Allen first met-up with the idea of starting a band and when Stevie was recruited as a result. I suppose it's possible that it was 1973, but it seems strange that several months would go by before they managed to recruit a drummer.

John (Foxx) seems to have a pretty-good memory for details (well, he did when I spoke to him, anyway) so he might be able to confirm whether there's any fact to this 1973 date that seems to be stated as often as 1974 (I think Billy states 1973 on his website).

Seems logical to me that this would tie in with the academic timetable.
Presumably John moved to RCA to begin a course in September/October 1973, after which he would have met up at some time with Chris again.

The band was initially conceived as part of a design project, which could have been part of the curriculum in 1974.

The first six or eight months at college would have passed very quickly with all the other bits and pieces of work he was doing, so I guess it probably was April/May when the band first got together

A more interesting question might be to ask when he came across that synthesizer while at art school.
