Finally I am back in Rotterdam and access to a proper internet connection.
It was a great trip! with a small setback...
Before the door I met Mr.Normall, still looking very normal at that stage btw
Had a nice chat with Rob P. on the stairs before the Roundhouse.
Chris & Scott came walking along, and all of us went to the Lock Tavern.
The meeting at the Lock Tavern was really nice, as I said it really added to the fun.
Missed a equal amount of people because of the "Wasting perfectly good daylight" seminar...but more of that in the appropriate thread
After this mental onslaught I ended up straight in the queue.
But I wasn't sure if I was waiting for the bar or the entrance.
Doors went open and after a while Jori Hulkkonen started DJ'ing...
It started out fairly good but when I heard Moskwa TV I really had enough.
Mark Jones's intentions were good I presume but as a DJ he is failed imho...
In the meantime I moved around a little to find a good spot.
The opening film was really great, has a real 'sinister' feel over it.
The Metamatic bit was great, no bad words about it.
But as I wrote and told some, I really think he should stop with the Metamatic stuff from now on.
Underpass becomes more and more his "Enjoy the Silence" in my opinion.
He made great songs after which can stand on their own.
As for the Louis Gordon part, I think they picked the wrong tracks. From Trash? Shifting City?
But in the end I am not the artist...what am I moaning about
The new stuff with Benge is great too, I had a instant liking to 'Catwalk'
And I agree on Destination, it is bound to be a new classic.
The Ultravox stuff was fab, around where I was standing the whole atmosphere changed when they did those tracks.
Only missed 'Can't stay long' as well, would have been the ultimate grande finale.
In the end, I enjoyed it tremendously.
All bum notes, failures, not-too-good-sound(?) and all included!
To me it was a great gig because it actually had the above ingredients.
People make faults, machines do not.
If you want to see guys with laptops there are plenty to choose from these days.
At the end Numan came on stage, by that time I was so annoyed by the 'noeeeeeemaaaaaan' shouts during the whole Foxx gig I refused to watch the rest.
Did the music actually start to play before he plugged his laptop in? (laptop huh huh
)
As we were waiting outside the hall I wanted to make some shots from the forum members; Garry, Brian, Gem among others.
I take the videocamera from my bag and suddenly this big security dude jumps out of nowhere;
Sd : "Excuse me sir, have you been filming this concert?"
Me : "No..." (always go for denial mode
)
Sd : "Can you show me the last 20 minutes of that tape?"
Me : "No..." (getting the hang of it now..."
Sd : "Can I ask you to go with me to the general manager with me?"
Me : "No..." (that was the last one)
I get into a argument telling him that if the police thinks I was speeding THEY have to fork out the evidence and not me...so HE should prove I was taping.
I decided it was best to leave before it became nasty.
At the door it continued a bit more
Sd : "I am not talking to you sir..."
Me : "You just did!"
Sd : "No..I am not talking to you sir..."
Me : "You do it again!"
And more arguing about videotaping being prohibited.
Finally he said with a very serious face "I assume you did the worst..."
Überlol! I nearly peed my pants laughing, as if I killed someone...
If you are reading this Mr. fat-ass-streber-security-dude...thanks a lot for ******* up a near perfect evening!
So there was no meeting John, dragged my Metatronic all the way from Holland in the hope to get it signed by him, and back
And not even saying bye to a bunch of you, only managed to catch Mr.Normall outside.
Was great meeting you all!
Film looks great though
Sound was still too loud on some songs, had set the input a bunch of dB's lower but forgot to switch the AGC off completely (but that's what you get with a new camera...)
p.s. Brian, thanks a lot for the dvd! (have a nice thank-you coming up for you)
