This is rather silly and inconsequential, which is why I'm sharing it, naturally.

I logged on to MySpace today. Those of you on MySpace know that there are now 3 John Foxx sites--one for his current stuff, one for his earlier solo career, and one for his career with Ultravox. I follow all three.

The site dedicated to John's earlier solo career originally was designated with some date range (1979 to 2009, or some such thing). That was changed to "John Foxx Electronic". Recently, I noticed that it was changed yet again to "John Foxx Metatronic."

No doubt the term "Metatronic" was chosen as a clever combining of "Metamatic" and "electronic" to imply that it refers to John's earlier stuff. However, as a person who studies/teaches world religions, it came across quite differently to me, as the term "Metatron" has a highly religious implication. It's especially funny in light of the fact that Foxx goes out of his way to avoid religion and religious imagery in his work.

When I read it I thought, "John Foxx is second only to God? Wow. I knew he was a great man, but I had no IDEA..."

I think "Metatronic" was also the name of a planned album that was never released. But we really shouldn't mention that!

If John ever releases/tours said album we will all,presumeably,have to take our seats in The Gods

When I read John's answer about avoiding religion & religious imagery, I thought. He's 'avin' a bubble, surely.

Don't mention "Metatronic"! Or "Metadelic" or "Metamatica" or "Metablokeonthewaytoworkthismorning". They never existed, right?

I'm not too convinced that John stays away from religious imagery, either. But someone asked him the question directly at the Q&A in Hudson, and he said point blank that he does not use religious imagery and avoids religion entirely in his work because he thinks it's dangerous. I've noticed in interviews that he's opposed to the idea that anything he does has anything to do with "myth", either. Which makes me wonder how he defines those words, because I see a fair amount of both in a lot of his work...
