I have to say, for me, it feels like quantity has taken over quality in some instances over the last couple of years.

The last time I recall being genuinely thrilled and excited by a new release was back in 2006 with Tiny Colour Movies, From Trash and Sideways. Although I did get half way there with "Destination" last year, but the absence of any quick follow up release, I've crawled back under my rock.

Although I like the idea of the live album on Metatronic, I wasn't too impressed with neither A New Kind of Man or Neuro Video, both sounding a little flat and lifeless in parts to my ears, so there's a little apprehension that CD2 will be more of the same. However to its merit, it does chronicle another important tour in Foxx's career and will be a good addition to the set overall, and at just 8 tracks, it's an easily digestible length.

Personally I would have preferred to have seen the extended versions of the likes of Plaza, Underpass etc and the early versions, all together on one thematic CD, as opposed to scattered about over compilations... but hey, that's marketing tactics for you.

I still think it's a great package overall and it will offer something for everyone. And if you can't afford a mere tenner, you can get Metatronic on Play.com including delivery for £7.99! Now tell me that isn't a bargain!

Not at all...

The master tapes to the Early Version of Burning Car and the Extended Version of Underpass were only uncovered after both the double disc edition of Metamatic and the Glimmer compilation album had already been released.

In an ideal world, all of the material written / recorded / produced by an artist would be 'in one place'. It would also be on one common format. However, for a million and one reasons, this is not always possible. In this instance, two Metamatic-era tracks have only recently come to light, and while it would be quite easy to simply not release them (and that way no-one would be any the wiser as to their existence), it's been decided to add them to Metatronic instead.

I can assure you that tracks aren't being deliberately 'scattered about' just so as another album can be put together at a later date which people will be 'obliged' to buy to keep their collections complete. frown

Yeah, I think so too... but I'd hate for anyone to think that they were being 'forced' to buy these albums.

Yeah, agreed.

Never mind the artwork, the sleevenotes, the ambience of the compilation, the support of the artist

There's always a choice...

If I remember right, many people of this forum had these two compilation albums Metatronic and Metadelic on their wishlist for many years (me too), and asked John from time to time to releasing it one day. So, now he had done it and there is so much new stuff included (which is a big surprise) - only for a tenner! eek
For me, the new stuff alone is worth the tenner and the compilation is the bonus.
Sorry, but it's hard for me to understand this discussion.
I think it's time to be happy about it.

Looking forward to Metadelic... smile

It's a shame John has n't done a video interview for the DVD with this collection that would have been a nice addition.

Thank you Rob for the explanation of the reasons Burning car and Underpass have been included on Metatronic. Now I know the reason I shall pre-order it just for these two tracks and Sydney live.
