Mine was waiting for me when I got home. Can’t really add anything to what others have said already – as Church Puddle says it’s a really nice package. Here’s the anorak stuff though; the box has a matt finish, and the images run almost like a ribbon right round the box which has no text on it enhancing the minimalist feel of the whole thing.
All the CD wallets have slightly different artwork to the original album design (except
Crash & Burn, Cathedral Oceans III), and again no text on the front. All the CDs (except
Crash & Burn) are new pressings with the new catalogue number and 2008 publishing/copyright details. The back of sleeve just lists track titles and website details – information has been almost stripped from the entire project leaving the bare minimum possible. They’ve not gone as far as the recent
Factory Joy Division vinyl box set (which removed all text, photos and logos from the three official albums).
The art cards are strong, heavy postcard weight with a gloss finish cut to the same size as the CD wallets. There is no text on the back, again enhancing the minimalism throughout.
All in all – a job well done, and my thanks to all involved; Rob, Steve, John, Louis et al. I really like the minimalist feel of it all; reducing it to just music and visuals – a really nice touch.
Now then Rob – where are the other 194 discs?
