I have listened to both these tracks several times now and I must say how good they are. In my opinion they don't quite have the cutting edge as John working with Louis but that hasn't spoilt the sound for me. If the two down-loads are anything to go by, then I looking forward to buying and hearing the complete album.

Metalbeat. I think you are right. They dont have the same edge as with Louis.

I like both tracks rather a lot. I liked them straight away, and I found that a little worrying because sometimes I've found that my enthusiasm can soon begin to fizzle for songs that instantly seem to connect. But I don't think that that will happen here. And let's face it, it's hard to imagine any Foxx fan actually disliking these songs. I'm not sure myself if they do have less of an edge than John's work with Louis. What I would say though is that they are even more of a back-to-basics approach. And there's something Metamatically unsettling about them. On September Town it's a quality that's harder to define. But on Destination, those clangs... cool

Maybe that's the idea.

This material is released (and perhaps therefore written?) as a single, after all and that's a whole different thing to what we are used to with John's material

I think that there could be something in what you say, Martin. But though I welcome this single as a saliva-inducing glimpse of what we can expect on the forthcoming album, the rationale behind its release is a bit elusive. Destination is as cool as f**k and strangely accessible at the same time. It certainly deserves to sell well and it could even achieve a higher chart placing than Underpass if it got the exposure, what with the current mainstream vogue for retro electronic sounds from artists such as Little Boots and La Roux. But, sadly, that's an alternate world and it just ain't going to happen at this stage in John's career and the download is unlikely to be purchased by many outside his hardcore following.

The album from John Foxx and The Maths, which is going to be called Interplay, is now scheduled for a late February 2011 release. Further information, together with the full track-listing, will follow as soon as everything has been confirmed.
