I’ve been reading the forum quite regularly since the Metamatic remaster and tour last year.
I think the first time I discovered the Metamatic site was in 2000, (a period when I first got online), though I recall that the forum was closed at the time. I looked around and left, and it wasn’t till after 2003 that I guess I started to take a peek here again, and since then really only once in a while over the years, till now.
I have to admit that for a long time I found it ‘strange’ to realise that John Foxx truly was still out there, albeit now with Louis, and moving more and more confidently and creatively along a path of sound he had left as a solo artist since Metamatic.
It took a while, and a shift in perspective for me to embrace that John need not just be a memory of something fantastic and oh so fleetingly beautiful, that I’d experienced as a younger self first hand, over a quarter of a century ago.
The existence of the forum, and the enthusiasm of people posting here, has definitely helped bring John Foxx back into my life musically today. Of course he never truly went away, as for me like many here, his music of internal and external landscape mapped out the deeply emotional soundtrack to my youth.
His two albums for me that burned messages of beautiful urban anxiety, and soaring and haunted longing into my psyche, were of course Metamatic, and the Garden, these were so very, very important to me, at a time when I left my late teen’s, and continued on into my early 20’s.
Hello to everyone, I hope to post and chat more,
(and my name is George.)
