Being the sucker that I am it'll almost a 99.99% probability that I'd buy a live version of Metamatic, if one was ever released.

I would not use that word.
I would buy the live version, ESPECIALLY if I had been at one of the shows. Makes it that much more special to actually have something from
the gig other than a tshirt.
Of course those of us that could not make it, would buy it.
So that covers everyone right?

A friend from another site bunged me a boot of the Manchester gig.
But I'd STILL buy an official cd if it came out

If I was to choose between the 2 gigs I recently went to I would favour a recording of the Cargo gig over the ICA one.Simply for the vocals.

My estimate would be that if a release goes ahead, it might be in about a year anyway if there is a new tour to coincide with it,and there's always the option to not buy it straight away if anyone is feeling a bit stretched to get another cd.In terms of marketing "Metamatic Live" is more likely to get attention than a "normal" John Foxx live album, as musicians refer to it as an influencial album and it gives reviewers something to compare it to (the studio album) in terms of how somethings have changed and others have not.I guess tracks like Mr.No are only a tiny bit different than the originals, having a few extra synth lines added, so not so great from a live perspective.

I didn't see any official video cameras at the gigs so as much as I too would like an official dvd of the gigs that seems like something not yet being considered.

In terms of future gig material, I hope there will be a new album of new or "re-purposed" stuff that can be part of the set list next year.

If the album themed tour carries on, personally I would look forward to it for The Garden, but after that I'd be happy with a return to the normal "best/new/most suitable" tracks off any of the albums type gig.

Some bands, you can buy the recording BEFORE it's been recorded!

Couldn't agree more. Its similar to the Numan situation, as much as its interesting there has to be a time where too many album gigs would not work.
I think in the same way Numan should just do 'Replicas', and 'Principle', John and Louis should do 'The Garden' and maybe just 'TGS' too.
The chances are that Numans 'Telekon Show' is still coming out on cd and dvd, along with any further album gigs he does. Thats why I felt Johns shows equally deserved this too.

Personally, I'd like to see John go back to "normal" gigs, next time round. I can't help but feel that his latest work (From Trash & Sideways) has been overlooked and underplayed, especially since the re-release of Metamatic and obviously, the tour.

Metamatic stands alongside albums such as Telekon and Replicas, as pioneering works. The Garden - great though it is - doesn't have such a status, and I'm not sure if there would really be a 'need' to play the whole album live.

Of course, it would be cool if he did - but then you could also say, why not play Shifting City in its entirety, or any other of his albums. I think as a one-off, it is good. Too much, as newvox says, might not work. If there is one John Foxx album that deserves the "live in its entirely" treatment, then it is Metamatic.

I know I am being critical/objective though. We all know, whatever John decides to play live, we'll want to go and see it!!

I do also think that John's full live shows of Cathedral Oceans and Tiny Colour Movies (even though I'm yet to see the latter) do work a treat, and will outlive the current trend of playing an entire album live. I suppose they serve more of a purpose.
