Just read that Italian director Antonioni has died. I believed John worked with him at some point in the 80s. Am I right?

You are right sir, yes. Sad news indeed, but thanks for posting.

John Foxx was one of several artists (inc Tangerine Dream and Peter Baumann) who contributed some music to his film "The Identification of a Woman" which won a couple of awards at the Cannes festival in 1982.
Speaking in 1983 (Electronics and Music Maker), John said of this work:

"In the end I think Antonini threw away most of what I'd written. The only things of mine that ended up on the finished film were a few atmospheres and things like that."

Having watched the film several times, I have found it impossible to identify which pieces are by Foxx, except the extract of an instrumental 'Europe after the Rain' somewhere in the middle. Someone needs to sit down with him, listen to the soundtrack and make him say - "There. That bit. That's mine..." etc...

Oh well... maybe... though
I guess... is that so?... I see

Hey Martin, thanks for confirming that. I think they'll be showing all the films over here on TV now so I'll keep my ears well open when that one comes around.
The funeral is being held tomorrow in my adopted home town of Ferrara, N. Italy as it's where Antonioni was born.

I've got a note (somewhere) of the other artists who were involved - I'll dig it out and post it here. I'm sure that XTC and Steve Hillage also contributed material...

As far as I remember, and it's been absolutely ages since I've watched the film all the way through, John didn't write the whole soundtrack, just the linking pieces. However, I do definitely remember it including a short instrumental version of Europe After the Rain. The other artists who appeared (and the tracks they performed) were as follows...

Steve Hillage (The Fire Inside, Palm Trees (Love Guitar) and Musick of the Trees), Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark (Stanlow and Souvenir), Peter Baumann (This This Day), Tangerine Dream (Tangram and Ricochet), XTC (Ten Feet Tall) and Japan (Sons of Pioneers).

Thanks Rob for posting details of the songs featured: can anyone confirm what the track is at the start of the end credits - always liked that one.
