Well I'm nothing if not predictable I'm a bit like Townsend regurgitating John's back catalogue
So here is my "Welsh" thread in a 12 inch remix form to mark today 17 march
Here's probably the record that changed my life musically when I crossed over from Radio 1 to Radio Luxembourg and discovered there was more to life musically than The Sylistics , Barry White , The Rubettes and The Bay City Rollers(But not much more) Championed by Canada's leading DJ , David "Kid" Jensen (Inverted commss de rigeur as I think he is now the proud owner of a free bus pass )So let's hear it for Phil ,Eric and Brian "In dem Musik Laden"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-M2jSzLBzK4
Followed by this all the way from Co. Camden

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mrs8bF7NLfA&feature=fvst

and to finish , this never fails to make me well up for personal reasons . To the greatest man who ever lived and to whom I owe everything . I still miss you Dad

And here's what the girls looked like before they found fame and fortune (and the magic of CGI) as they followed the Emerald Green road to the Wizard of Oz:

Ivan, lest it appear that I don't take our Metamatic threads seriously, here is my nomination for greatness - a classic from a band formed in Dublin, Kevin Sheilds and My Bloody Valentines masterpiece, and one of my all time favourite albums, Loveless:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-JjkQmPI9qs

And here is what Loveless sounded like before it was immersed in distortion by Kevin Shields to the tune of £250,000 pounds at the expense of the record company laugh wink :

Which leads nicely to The Divine Comedy and Neil Hannon:

It was republic Muzak* in the Beach household when I were a lad. Cue $**1tloads of; Christy, Wolfetones, Planxty etc. Jeez - I even had to listen to "Moving Hearts" (imagine hard-lined rebel music...produced by Mike and his Mechanics...bloody hell).

I'd like to say this made me politically active. But, the truth is, there's only so many songs you can hear as a kid with some amphetamine freakazoid going hell for leather on a fiddle-e-dee instrument whilst a troubadour of no fixed abode waxed lyrical about leaving Ireland to look for Mary (in Irish songs of the 70s...rebel or otherwise...they were always called Mary... I've no idea why) so he was now, on a ship, "bound for Liv-ar-poooooooool" Well, I think every Irish song in the 70s was about looking for Mary who was "bound for Liv-ar-poooooooooooool".

I bet the Holyhead line of Sealink made a killing.

Years later though, I have developed a respect for Christy Moore. And this is his standout track. No Mary's required. Unless Mary's a horse;

(*Mary fitted as standard)

Has to be one from Phil & the boys. Too many good ones to pick a fave, so I'll post this one.

Angel Of Death

I'd post my favourite Irish song, but I don't have one.

"Ah Begorra so Radler A grand post there" Wow , so many coincidences in this post Grandad Christy* came on that very same boat from Dun Laighoire to Holyhead whence to Merseyside on a one way ticket Nan , if not from Holyhead was a Gogg from Anglesey , siarad Cymraeg to boot ! I can only assume that Christy abducted her and confined her to a fate as a tealady in a canteen on the docks and had her produce 7 children !! If he'd caught the boat the other way I'd be prattling on about Boston Red Sox rather than the turgid non descript shite currently being served up by The Walton White Sox in L4 ! But then again I wouldn't be on here . I'd be on The STYX or FOREIGNER fora launching such threads as "WHat's your favourite denim waistcoat ? " . "Best way of removing tattoos ?" and " What's the point of shampoo ?"
Like Den/John known both as Christy and Danny because it got confusing My mam rebelled by calling me David Charles after her Dad , so I'm the only first born male male not known as Danny or at times Christy. I could start a one man Chas and Dave tribute act I suppose !
My nan wasn't called Mary btw !
I think I already told you I saw CHRISTY MOORE in a freebie concert in Venice many moons ago ! I was impressed
Talking of things Irish ,been listening to THE FATIMA MANSIONS this morning One angry Dude that Caithal Coughlan !!
WEll going of topic Hopefully will see the riders in MILANO SAN REMO Flash by sometime around midday on the morn I'll be there with pink foam hand and cardboard cut-out of you

CORE MEMORY RE LOVELESS MY BLOODY VALENTINE I'm in weed addled Paul McCartney mode giving you a massive thumbs up , 20 years ago frightening !!
