What ones do you like ?
Ironically my fellow Lancastrian*** John's accent totally disappears as do my fellow citizens' The Beatles , The Bunnymen , Wah ,There's something inexplicably naff about singing in Scouse or Lancastrian unless it's folk (Feel free to disagree)
The ones I like are
Steve Harley /Madness* Fakkin ice**
Cerys of Catatonia Now there's lovely
Claire Grogan of Altered Images sexy wee minx

*Yet Albarn and Joe Strummer sound as phoney as hell
** Will this get past the Metamatic swearometer ?
***Lisa Stansfield East Lancashire like John You could cut her accent with a knife Nice to listen to when she talks but as standard English as anything when singing "It's a reet gud time ft' fallin' int' luv " would grate somewhat

( I look forward to Membs holding forth about The Wurzels laugh )

I like Zladko Vladcik's accent. Started to use that in my project, too.

The Wurzels..the Wurzels..why oh why am I the only one who appreciates said combo who have stuck true to their origins and maintained the lingua vulgaris in their art without betraying their West Country roots oo arr.. A stance only to be admired in the current global village where they all sound the same n'est-ce pas?(witness also the Teutonic Eurovision winner singing in faux-American-Irish lilt .. cringe).

Anyway I like it when occasionally (just for a moment, sic.) can pick up our Dennis's accent on certain.. werds or terns of phreze..*
Can't think of any at mo but they're there sumwhere..

But speaking of West Country - or thereabouts - try Swindon's finest XTC to spot the occasional slipped vowel or two, esp from Black Sea onwards where they seem to settle more into a homely mid-England sound, vocals included.

*pathetic attempt at transcribing Chorley-speak

I always felt that John's Chorley roots came out in the Retro Live EP version of 'The Wild, The Beautiful and the Damned' with
'I'll send you truck loads of flowers'
