Obviously we are all minimalists at heart on here but there are one or two epic ie over 7 minute songs (Does the title track of The Garden fall into this category ? is it length or structure which determines epicness
OK Mine First of all I hate southern boogie yet never fail to get a frisson from
FREEBIRD LYNRD SKYNYRD secondly I'll own up to liking
MUSIC JOHN MILES
NO list would be complete without ZEP'S STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN
MOCKINGBIRD BARCLAY JAMES HARVEST
THE WAY WE USED TO LIVE and AVENUE ST ETIENNE

and one for me and Birdsong SHERRIFF FATMAN CARTER USM (Just hits the 7 minute mark I think)

ANyone anything else to add or am I in a minority of one ?

Cool - thanks for the reference. What a splendid tune that is!

As far as epic tunes go, I like few better than Television's "Marquee Moon", though Dylan's "Desolation Row' comes close.

Others I'd put in that category include

Bat Out of Hell
Shifting City
I Can't Wait - Amon Duul 2
I Heard It Through The Grapevine - Creedence Clearwater Revival's version
How Soon Is Now
Split Lip - Marc and the Mambas

Marquee Moon shame on me for missing it out shocked Thanks Martin I think I'll dig the album out and listen to to the whole lot btw I hope Mrs Birdsong is better
How soon is now Manc miserablists The Smiths or "controversial" voluptious Russian minxes TATT ? smile
I'll add THE SHIP SONG FAIPORT CONVENTION to the list (Not to be confused with The Nick Cave jewel !)

'Shifting City'.
'Shine On You Crazy Diamond Parts 1 - 7' - Pink Floyd.
'Flute Salad/Oily Way/Outer Temple/Inner Temple' - Gong.
'Zero The Hero And The Witch's Spell' - Gong.
'Where But For Caravan Would I?' - Caravan.
'Whatevershebringswesing' - Kevin Ayers.
'The Ocean, The Night And The Big, Big Wheel' - Bill Nelson.
'And Now The Rain' - Bill Nelson.
'The Wildest Wish To Fly' - Rupert Hine.
'Stanlow' - OMD.
'As I Sit To Play The Organ At The Notre Dame Cathedral' - Sparks.
'Anesthetize' - Porcupine Tree.

And no doubt quite a few others I could think of...

A couple of the above are 'song suites', but had they been titled to suggest a single evolving song I think few would have a problem with that.

I would say I'm a bit of a fan. smile I have a few albums and I've seen them, just once. I like quite a lot of their stuff but there isn't a whole album that I love in its entirety.

I'm no authority, but fire away. You never know.

Some more belters
MOTHER OF PEARL ROXY MUSIC(I think I already mentioned I'd like to see John Cover this one)
and of course AUTOBAHN KRAFTWERK (The title track weighs in at about 25 minutes if I'm not mistaken)
SPIRIT OF THE RADIO RUSH (I discovered this jewel thanks to St Etienne who sampled it on "So Tough "
