The "Gary Numan continues to lose the plot" saga continues here.

Good interview, mainly about the upcoming American dates, but the interesting stuff comes towards the end, where he mentions moving to LA, and admits he's messed the new albums up by trying to make 2 at once. Neither of which are finished.

Gee, it's great being a Gary Numan fan.

Gary moving to LA?
eek
Hope he doesn't keep doin' that NIN-USA industrial thing.
'Pure' was okay, 'Hybrid' sometimes brilliant, but after that he became more and more a Trent clone.
I want him to move on and adept other styles!
(like he always did)

Gary needs a good shake-up and to realise that analogue sounds don't necessarily mean retro!

He admits to just how much he enjoyed playing The Pleasure Principle live last year - one of his best albums.

When you think "Gary Numan", you think of that timeless sound that propelled him to superstardom in the late 70s. People still want that.

I'm sure Gary could embrace those sounds and apply them to the darker, heavier direction he wants to go in, and produce something that really sounds like Numan in 2010 should sound.

Exile remains one of my favourite albums, but after that, he went further down the industrial route, which to me seems to be a limited audience, and isn't particularly popular any more. I do like Pure and Jagged, but I feel he could do so much more.

Ahh, Exile!
It's one of my fav albums too.
Let's hope he sets course to another direction.

Heard he spoke to Trent (...) lately, they talked about doin' an album together, but that it should sound completely different.

I know that Gary loves Arabic tunes, so that combined with electronix and some guitar could sound: cool

Gary keeps banging on about this "wall of sound" thing, which he already subjected us with on Jagged.

The new tracks he's been playing recently do sound quite good though, albeit in a formative state. And it sounds like he might have finally stopped ranting at God in his songs... hopefully.

Interesting point about the Arabic influence - you can certainly hear that in tracks like "Cold Warning", "Pressure" and the start of "Dead Heaven".

Cold Warning was the most haunting song from the Berserker album for me.
But also on the Jagged album I think I can trace some Arabic influences.
In these post 9/11 times, that's prob. a positive influence ...
wink

It seems another live Numan album is on the way:

Quote:
Just uploaded three tracks on to the My Space page which were recorded live on The Pleasure Principle Tour last year in the UK - Asylum, Cars (two tracks taken from The Pleasure Principle) and Halo (from Gary Numan's most recent album, Jagged).

The London show on the tour was recorded for a full CD & DVD release this autumn/fall.

Rather a random thought but listening to "Engineers" yesterday I thought how much it sounded like Syd Barrett might have sounded had he made it musically into post-punk. The voice is uncanny.
