John Foxx formed Ultravox! in 1974 and they released three forward-looking albums mixing glam, punk and electronics, culminating with their 1978 album, Systems Of Romance which was produced by Conny Plank in Germany.

Foxx’s debut solo album Metamatic, arrived in January 1980, launching the new decade with frozen, minimalist electronic songs including the classic Underpass single.

Further solo records such as The Garden and The Golden Section signalled an increasingly psychedelic, lush, romantic sound before Foxx disappeared from the public eye to focus on visual art, including many commissions for book covers by the likes of Salman Rushdie and Jeanette Winterson.

He fully returned to music in the late ‘90s with Manchester artist Louis Gordon on Shifting City and has been an ever present force since then, releasing four more albums with Gordon, along with an array of atmospheric solo records.

Starting with a headline show at the Roundhouse, in 2010 he created John Foxx And The Maths with fellow analogue synthesiser artist Benge. The line-up has also featured other musicians such as Hannah Peel (keyboards/violin) and former Ultravox guitarist Robin Simon.

For a long time now Foxx has been exploring ambient music via a series of albums, including the Cathedral Oceans trilogy, the critically acclaimed Tiny Colour Movies, collaborations with Harold Budd and Robin Guthrie (Cocteau Twins), and his own solo piano releases.

In 2015 he put together a new contemporary classical group, Ghost Harmonic with Benge and violinist Diana Yukawa, debuting with the Codex LP in the same year.

Meanwhile his experiments in the visuals arts continue. He's soundtracked his own cut-up movies (hyperballard.com) in collaboration with the artist Karborn, the pair also working together on exhibitions in America and the project Evidence Of Time Travel with Steve D'Agostino.

A book, Electricity And Ghosts: The Visual Art Of John Foxx was published in 2024 which furthered a longstanding creative partnership with the Grammy-winning graphic designer Jonathan Barnbrook and Foxx’s first collection of short stories, The Quiet Man also appeared in 2020.

He’s currently working on a new John Foxx And The Maths album, which is due in 2027.

Copies of John's books Electricity And Ghosts and The Quiet Man will be available to buy at the Festival and there'll be a dedicated book signing after his event.
