Yes, nice call Membs, personally I would pick The Model, Radioland, Neon Lights, Sex Object, Computer Love and the whole of Trans-Europe Express.

I think it's important to point out that Kraftwerk knocked Shaking Stevens off the Number one spot.

I'm confused now about Radio-Activity!

wikipedia also says:
Quote:
Unlike Kraftwerk's later albums, which featured language-specific lyrics, only the titles differ between the English and German editions. A concept album, Radio-Activity is bilingual, featuring lyrics in both languages.

I've got this edition
http://www.discogs.com/Kraftwerk-Radio-Activity/release/432202 and I'm pretty sure my Voice of Energy is in German though, which is why I called it Die Stimme der Energie!

Is this a record?

I genuinely don't know is my answer. My Computer World vinyl and cassette are both the same; sung in English. My Computewelt CD, which I bought in Berlin about ten years ago is sung in German with a few random bits thrown in (Computerliebe goes on a little longer and before fading out the song seems to slow down as if the original tape reel was slowing down). So I'm guessing Wiki must be right - that from Radio-Activity onwards; the albums were released in both English and German editions.

Just to add to all this, wiki again;

"In keeping with the album’s concept, Kraftwerk showcased their music on an ambitious world tour and issued several different versions of the single "Pocket Calculator" in different languages: namely, German ("Taschenrechner"), French ("Mini Calculateur") and Japanese ("Dentaku," or 電卓). A fifth version, in Italian ("Mini Calcolatore"), was lip synched to on Italian television in 1981. [6]

As was the case with the two previous albums, Computer World was released in both German and English language editions. The title of the final track is in English in all releases, as it is a pun based on the slogan "It's more fun to compete!" that could be seen on old pinball machines. While not major, it should also be noted that there are a few noticeable differences in the album mixes used on the English and German language releases."

ooo them Germans and their languages eh! ..

Yes I suppose all the above is correct. I'm just intrigued now that my (cheapo) CD issue of RA has the *German* version of the recording, as 'Energy/Energie' would seem to be the only mono-lingual track on a bi-lingual album.

...or what about Radio Stars??

Those crazy Germans - tsk!

Right. based on this morning's listen...

Radio-Activity UK Edition
The vocoder sections on Radio-Activity are in German, including The Voice of Energy. The vocals for Radioactivity and Antenna being performed in English…

Airwaves, News, Radio Stars however is all sung/spoken in German.

So…

Radio-Activity (Deutsche version: Radio-Aktivität)
Trans-Europe Express (Deutsche version: Trans-Europa Express)
The Man-Machine (Deutsche version: Die Mensch-Maschine)
Computer World (Deutsche version: Computerwelt)
Electric Café (Deutsche version: Electric Café / Spanish: Edicion Española)

Pocket Calculator (Deutsche version: Taschenrechner / French: Mini Calculateur / Japanese: Dentaku / Italian: Mini Calcolatore

Is that right? Am I missing anything? Tour de France in Swahili?
