I've never been a great fan of buying albums on cassette. In the days when you could, I mean. Are such things still released?

It set me wondering (given the thread about first things bought etc - does anyone have copies of the foxx Ultravox albums on CASSETTE as they were released?

I doubt they have much financial value, but must surely be quiet collectable things?
I'd just be curious to see what they even looked like

Hi Martin,

The Ultravox!-era cassettes had the entire album on Side A with Side B left blank for you to tape your own stuff on - odd when you consider the industry's 'Home Taping Is Killing Music!' warning on inner sleeves of the time.

I bought all my Ultravox! cassettes in one go at a charity shop many, many years ago. On the EP in the flip-top box edition someone had recorded the 'Retro EP' on Side B!

Cheers Garry

Did you buy them as a box-set then??

Hi Martin,

No there was no box set. All the cassettes came in standard cassette boxes except the EP - which looks like this;

The packaging is like a cigarette packet.

That takes me back. I had Three into One in that cassette format. It was called 1+1 as I remember....and the line went something like;

"On one side what you want, on the other side whatever you want!"

Sadly long since chewed up in a cheap car stereo!

Boo Hoo!

Two unusual items have turned up on EBay;

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SAUDI-ARABIAN-CASS...1QQcmdZViewItem

Features 'Observer' by Gary Numan (!!!?) tagged on one side! eek laugh and for some reason, what looks like sleeve art from Pink Floyd's 'Dark Side of the Moon' has been thrown in for good measure!

But wait!

It gets worse! Much worse...

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SAUDI-ARABIAN-CASS...1QQcmdZViewItem

Check out the tracklisting on THIS one!

I wonder if John got all the royalties!? laugh laugh

Heh! Me Neither! I used to have copies of 'Replicas', 'The Pleasure Principle' and Telekon' on the '747' and the Asian 'Footprint' labels. The 'Replicas' cassette had tracks from 'The Pleasure Principle' and vice-versa (I think).

I convinced myself that they must be quite rare, but cassettes are still very popular in the UAE/South-East Asian territories, and these things were (and still are) produced in their thousands, sometimes millions.

I think I even had an Ultravox 'The Collection' cassette that had the 12" mixes from the ltd edition double-vinyl version.

Never remember even seeing FoxxVox cassettes in the stores at the time. I have a couple of nonFoxxVox cassettes though.

There is now a Saudi Arabian cassette version of The Golden Section on ebay

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SAUDI-ARABIAN-CASS...tem180150421503

Which doesn't include the extra tracks, and has the tracks listed in a peculiar order
