This is brilliant news Rob.

I wonder if April 28th is actually "cast in stone"? Anyway it'll be a nice addition to my collection.

That would make a nice birthday present (*cough*) if it is released on the Monday. wink

Why would 29th be the date Rob? Things don't generally get released on Tuesdays, except in America.

Ooooops, sorry about that - it'll be released on the 28th and not the 29th... I got confused...

Am I to assume that the 28th of april is someones Birthdays then? wink

Thanks, but I'm afraid that I really can't lay any claim to it - despite it looking remarkably like the artwork I created for John back in 1998 for the (never released) Metamatica album. S'funny how these things come round... laugh

Great sleeve. I love the way the live albums are never so obviously 'live albums', even though admittedly this looks more like a 'greatest hits' thing.
Townsend link still not werkin'.

Hi D,

Try this link -
http://www.townsend-records.co.uk/artist.php?artist=John+Foxx&pType=1

I wonder if this CD is limited in the same way 'Metal Beat' and 'Retro Future' were.

Agree about the sleeve - so good to see a bit of effort than just a live photo slapped on the front.

Aye, there she blows me hearties .. ta Beach.

(Yes, for cheapo "live photo slapped on the front" type "art""work" see OMD's effort here .. très disappointing).

Me too. Jandek is fascinating/perverse in this respect, releasing each gig he does as a place/day e.g. "Glasgow Sunday" and the cover photo will be a picture of a barn in a field or something. laugh

A New Kind Of Man - out now!

John Foxx - A New Kind Of Man

I know this never happens but we're actually moving forward the release date of the new John Foxx album, A New Kind Of Man to this Monday April 21, 2008. We actually received the stock a couple of days early so our official shop Townsend Records will start shipping out the pre-orders later today. This means that some people may receive the album this weekend. A New Kind Of Man was recorded on the Metamatic Tour in autumn 2007 and features 17 tracks: Film One, Plaza, He's A Liquid, Underpass, Metal Beat, No-One Driving, A New Kind Of Man, Blurred Girl, 030, Tidal Wave, Touch And Go, Glimmer, Mr No, This City, My Face, Burning Car and 21st Century. The album is 77 minutes long and the artwork includes an eight page booklet. You can now order from Townsend on the following link:
www.townsend-records.co.uk/artist.php?artist=John+Foxx&pType=1
We've pressed up 1000 copies of A New Kind Of Man: Townsend currently have around 500 copies of the album available - the rest are for the forthcoming Australian tour and other dates, promo and a couple of specialist retailers for later in the year. That said, if these sell quickly we will consider pressing up some more. However, stocks of Metal Beat and Retro Future are now running low and these will not be re-pressed.
Meanwhile, John is busy working on some new material including an album of piano music which we're hoping to release later in the year. He's also sketching out some new songs armed with an ARP, Moog and a CR-78 drum machine.
Another new project is a remix/art collaboration with Dub Terror and Karborn, the first fruits of which is the new version of 'Burning Car' which you can listen to on this official My Space page.

Blimey! Who's ever heard of an album being released early!? eek great stuff! Looking forward to it – hopes the recording of ‘Metal Beat’ is from the Cargo performance.

So – new piano album thingy, the re-issues, collaborations with Jansen, Guthrie, Dub Terror and his son…I thought he was supposed to be having a quiet year this year!

Simply amazing!

If he can create another Metamatic with the ARP (Odyssey?), Moog (Minimoog and/or Polymoog?) and CR 78 that'll be amazing. Just add a few vintage strings here and there either from a Logan/Solina/Farfisa/Yamaha and presto!

The older the synths the richer the textures.

I had a nice surprise this morning. I hadn't read this thread and to my amazement "A New Kind Of Man" landed on my doormat. I haven't played it yet but will do so later today. It's nice to have something early for a change.

Sounds like we have a lot to look forward to this year. Piano music sounds interesting. I bet that'll be out in time for Leeds.

Of course one mustn't forget the Elka Rhapsody 610. Foxx sailed through this on Systems of Romance. It is my understanding that the strings on Metamatic came from the Polymoog, Yamaha CS80 and the Farfisa Syntorchestra or Soundmaker.

Another fine string machine/organ is the one used by JM Jarre on his early material, the Eminent 310U with the Electro-Harmonix Small Stone phaser. BTW the Solina was an original product by Eminent which was later sold as an ARP.

I've a weakness for string machines. laugh

Townsend Records don't have this on their 'New releases' section??? eek

I'm wondering where else, apart from this forum and the mailing list, it is possible to find out that this album even exists?

Good point (and probably explains why someone is willing to pay £35 on e-bay). It would be far more visible if made available on Play or Amazon (or if Townsend had an e-bay shop).

But then, with a sales target of only £500 copies, why go for a higher profile release?

I think there is a danger some fans may miss out completely (or end up paying too much), which is a shame. Retro Future is nearing 1000 sales and I think this album has wider appeal and could sell more.

Surely not me as mine arrived from Townsend Records on Monday. Such a charming shop.

Did you know that the seller of that ebay item, fetafunk, could be the guy that runs Mick Karn's website?

I once tried to buy off the Mick Karn website the Japanese release of Jansen & Barbieri's Worlds in a Small Room. My bid wasn't accepted!

It surely is a small world!

I thought that too, Chris. Feta Funk being a track from Mick's 'The Tooth Mother' album.

I just picked up this new Live CD from John's Sydney concert last night.
Sensational concert. John and Loius really rocked!! in an oh so electronic way of course.

The best thing. John was nice enough to sign the copy for me. Something to treasure for sure.

I was thinking of posting my impression of the concert but I think I'll need some time to work on it.

I also bought a poster. I asked John to sign that. I didn't bother with the CD. The guy standing in front of me took a while taking the sleeve out and putting it back in later. So I thought I might hold things up for someone else if I did the same.

It was only after I got home that I opened it up and realised I could have asked him to sign the actual CD itself.

Its the local tour poster. The same one you have up with the Adelaide concert review - except my one has an autograph in gold pen.

I plan to take a picture of it before I have it framed.

John and Louis were signing lots of the tour posters after the Adelaide gig. They had a silver pen there, not gold, I'm jealous smile I had my CD signed in black. Glad the Sydney gig went well.

I have played the new CD a few times in the car and it is excellent. the versions are essentially the same, but filled with some more keyboard effects which enhance the listening experiance not bog it down.
No one driving just sounds awesome on the album.
Hats off to the production - as it sounds really good

Interesting that it has sold out when the older Retro Future can still be had. Probably a reflection of the enduring appeal of Metamatic.
