I recently started listening to Desert Island Discs and a thought occurred to me has any of the castaways ever nominated a John Foxx disc to take to the island with them ? I somehow doubt it, but it got me thinking the only high profile fan of John that I am aware of is Mark Gatiss. Given how he is a long term fan; has been praising John's work lately; and introduced the Quiet Man at Apple he would definately have at least one track of John's on the island. I don't know how Radio 4 pick the castaways, but I think Mark would be an interesting guest and it would allow John to join the hallowed ranks of artists whose work gets chosen.

This led me to deliberate which of Johns music I would take with me, I found this a difficult decision but came to the conclusion it must be The Garden, ever since I first heard the track I loved the atmosphere and haunting quality of the music. It was the highlight for me of the last Cargo Concert.

So a new topic if you were the Castaway which John Foxx track(s) would you take to the Island with you ?

And wouldn't it be great to hear John Foxx as the guest?

Well, for a desert island I guess it would have to be When It Rains.

He was - and very entertaining. John Lydon has also featured in recent programmes

Years ago I would have said without hesitation The Garden, but yesterday I started thinking about Plaza, I always consider it to be the second John Foxx song I ever heard (if you exclude the B-side instrumental on the Underpass single).

Plaza shares an isolationist vibe with being a castaway, depending on your own mindset its sharp urban imagery might make you feel nostalgia for modern cityscapes, or just glad to be far away stranded on a beach!
