What an awful shame about the cypress trees at Scotney Castle. frown That place looks absolutely amazing, and I can definitely see why John was drawn to it. As a medievalist, I really, really want to go...Ninfa is also incredible - thanks for posting, Chris!

If anyone is thinking of going to Ninfa check carefully on opening times and days; it's an Italian monumento naturale (something like the National Trust in the UK) and is therefore kept as free of public invasions as possible!

Actually I find it quite ironic sometimes that the British love 'Italian gardens' but the Italians are also in love with the idea of 'giardini inglesi' and often try to imitate them. The Italian term for lawn is 'prato inglese'. wink
