I thought this was a joke when I read the title! laugh

I do like the idea of a box set... it certainly looks smart. But I'm just not sure who it is aimed at! New fans? Not sure... though the price may be tempting, this really seems to be aimed at the hardcore collector.

At least it doesn't contain anything new music-wise, so those of us without the time or money to re-buy stuff we already have, won't miss out.

However, I really like the idea of the art prints - maybe one day these could be bought on their own as a set. That kind of thing would be worth investing in, as it is an area of John's work, not really yet made available or affordable to the likes of us lot.

If 2008 has been the year of the reissue, then I hope '09 will bring in the new.

I dont have CO3 on CD,only DVD.

Nor do have the original CO DVD so I think I'll have one of these.

I know someone who will be more than happy to take the duplicates off my hands.

When I logged on and saw the words 'Cinemascope 6 Disc...' I thought Wow whats this! is it some kind of unexpected big new project like TQM or TCM, and I was momentarily excited...

I don't have CO3, or the DVD so this would probably be as cheap a way to have these, but I don't want to spend the money on something I'm not so rushed about, and I'd rather experience CO in its performance setting, (hopefully John will come more north with that in future).

The included art prints are interesting, but if I thought that John was bringing out something I'd really want to have like a lovely art book containing his book cover illustrations, photographs, and album cover work then I'd be jumping up and down shouting "Here We Go..." laugh

Thinking about this some more, I'd be interested to know who conceived of and drove this project. I'm thinking Townsend Records. I get the feeling that they are positioning themselves as a source of limited and special editions, as well as being a general retail supplier.

Pleased to say John's alive and kicking ,but S P Morrisey seems to sum Townsend's venture up perfectly on track 8 of "Strangeway's Here We Come "

At the record company meeting
On their hands - a dead star
And oh, the plans they weave
And oh, the sickening greed

At the record company party
On their hands - a dead star
The sycophantic slags all say :
"I knew him first, and I knew him well"

Re-issue ! Re-package ! Re-package !
Re-evaluate the songs
Double-pack with a photograph
Extra Track (and a tacky badge)

Well, I got the email and have already placed my order. I have everything in the set apart from the new Cathedral Oceans DVD (I've got the first one), but think the package looks great. I bought the Japanese versions of the first set of CD reissues because I like the mini LP sleeves.

I enjoy this music enough to want to own it in its various permutations; generally I sell earlier releases of my favourite CDs when a remastered version comes out, but I've kept all my Foxx incarnations and will continue to do so.

999 left, then.

Yes. In the booklet of Impossible, which I have had in front of me all day but have been unable to listen to yet mad , I note the following statement: "John Foxx official shop: www.townsend-records.co.uk for rarities and limited editions."

Townsend has an emailing list of John Foxx diehards (like me!) who bitch and moan and grumble about reissues and rereleases and repackaging and repurposing . . . and then wind up ordering the product anyway. There must be several hundred other names of similar people in the database – perhaps not a full 1,000, but a lot more people than would accidentally stumble into a record shop and say, "John Foxx? Why, yes, although I'm not at all familiar with his work, I think I'll purchase this curiosity based on its attractively stylish packaging alone." wink

If this box set is intended for anyone other than the initiated John Foxx fan, advertising it as a limited edition certainly suggests otherwise. I worked in record stores and have friends still in the industry and can assure you that newbies don't tend to grab limited editions, much less limited edition box sets. In a retail setting this would not be an impulse purchase, even when reasonably priced. Collectors and completists are the intended purchasers – oh, and potential eBay sellers! eek

The details for Cinemascope hadn't been confirmed when I sent out the last Metamatic Update, otherwise I would've included them.

It isn't absolutely clear from the info but isn't it the first CO DVD which is included in the set? It would be nice if it were the second one as I don't have that one. Clarification, Rob?

I wondered this too as BOTH DVD releases are called 'Cathedral Oceans'. It is only the catalogue numbers that differentiate them.
