Perhaps we’re still waiting for the smoke to clear from Short-Circuit, but I’m surprised no-one’s mentioned much about the new release D.N.A.

First, scattered impressions; gorgeous artwork – looks and feels very 23 Envelope. I’ve only had a chance to play it a few times and watch the DVD once. Standouts music-wise for me are the quieter, more reflective tracks.

On the DVD, the Macoto Tezka and Barnbrook films stand out for me. Not name-dropping, but some bloke from Chorley pointed out to me at the D.N.A. exhibition last year that the films by Macoto Tezka is Super-8 footage where each frame had been manipulated by hand. They’re very beautiful and fit the music perfectly.

Tezka stuffs looks astounding, I think -
manipulated by hand, you say?
Blimey.

I had been musing that it would be great to see effects like that on telly, but if it can't be done with an Adobe After Effects plugin I doubt we'll be seeing much of it on our screens! smirk

Yep - all true! Found them quite mesmerising at the exhibition and so glad they're on the DVD - really hope to see more of this.

Always strikes me as odd when the announcements area turns into the discussion area...

Anyway, glad to see some of you are getting your copies, because it means I should have mine in a week or two.

And, a week later, I have mine. Haven't listened to the album yet, but I watched the DVD and really liked it. Video-wise, Karborn's did the least for me, but it was the track my wife found most tolerable musically (she's not a fan). "Flightpath Tegel" and "Clicktrack" look a lot better on the TV than they did as youtube videos, and visually they're probably my favourites, but overall I really enjoyed watching it. And listening to it.

Good to read your views Steve. yes, MAybe Tomorrow seems to be the one that appeals most to non-Foxxites, probably because it's the most 'immediate' visually and musically and does take much hard work..
Right about Tegel & Click on the big screen vs. youtube.. I think we should petition for a big cinema(scope) showing somewhere.

It certainly does make more sense to discuss the album on this thread.

I'll probably appreciate it more once I've seen the visuals, but I just feel it simply doesn't 'work' as an album, with the clash of styles. It would have been great if the whole album had carried on the style of Flightpath/Maybe Tomorrow etc.

I guess it ought to be better viewed as an audio/visual project, and take it as a bonus that the music is available on its own!

Well, hate to send 'spoilers' but the DVD is just as contrasting as the CD in styles..only advantage being that these tiny colour movies are at least grouped together by director/creator... .which may (or may not) make things a little easier.
wink
