I wont get into the debate about who was truly first, but if you all listen to the history on this website it is very enlightening. Here is the link: http://odeo.com/episodes/18084303-The-Tone-Generation-Show-1-Great-Britain

Cool site! .. I like the way the programmes are divided up according to country...

BTW . .listen to Nash the Slash on the player here (track 5) saying he was "one of the first" to make solo electronic music in 1975 .. in Canada..

God, I saw Nash the Slash supporting Gary Numan in 1980. The memory of that electric violin still makes my fillings ache.

Tristram Cary was making electronic music in the 1950s, as Dennis Leigh knows fine rightly, I'm sure wink

And let's not forget Delia Derbyshire's original Doctor Who theme!

Gooogling at work, instead of working, damn these threads!
A few ‘academic chappies’ mentioned here:

http://www.woebot.com/2006/08/a_prehistory_of_british_electr.html

Some are described as electroacoustic which invalidates the argument, but is it at all just possible that at least one of these professors could have been our long lost first ever UK electronic artist? with tweed jacket and suede elbow patches, corduroy trousers, and with pipe in hand, but minus of course the Grey suit and asymmetrically parted hair laugh

I love mister2009100’s quote on that YouTube page: ”Why are they wearing this old-fashioned uniforms in the future! I dont understand that!”

All part and parcel of the synth maestros attire, remember Numans jumpsuit, and just look at Kraftwerk’s latest all black uniforms, I wonder if John ever felt inclined to go down that path eek

Used to have The Bridge, (sold it in '85), listening to it now on YouTube it sounds very New Wave, some good tracks I recall, if it wasn't for already having heard John's Metamatic then I know I wouldn't have had a copy of this.

Perhaps its fairer to say that John was in a class of his own with a particular definition of style within the blossoming genre.
