Working with Benge
John has just been doing some recording with Benge at his amazing studio in London - wall-to-wall analogue synthesizers and drum machines. Check out Benge's excellent Twenty Systems album which features 20 tracks created on 20 different synthesizers - it was after hearing this that we immediately got in touch with him - www.expandingrecords.com www.myspace.com/twentysystems

thanks for posting, listening to 1975 Moog now.

Could yet another new collaboration CD release for John be on the distant horizon?

Same for me. Never heard of Benge. Interesting though.

The Twenty Systems album is getting rave reviews everywhere:

'A brilliant contribution to the archaeology of electronic music' - Brian Eno

'Indicates what a deliriously desirable thing the synthesis of sound has historically been' - The Wire

'Absolutely cast iron irrefutable proof that synthesisers are betterthan guitars' - Vice Magazine

I've also just realized that both Twenty Systems and Glimmer are among the Top Ten Albums of 2008 according to barcode e-zine

I've been looking round the website and playing samples. The book looks lovely, and is probably more interesting than the audio itself which is more of a sample/demonstration of each synthesiser than an actual piece of music.

Experimental-art-electronica at its most pretentious!

Benge's studio does look like Foxx heaven... I bet John was in his element! This will be a very interesting collaboration indeed.

I've never heard of Benge before. Now Benga, that's a different story, and dubstep-loving Karborn would probably be thrilled if John worked with Benga. Actually, I'd be thrilled too if John worked with some dubstep producers. But I digress.

The Twenty Systems CD looks really cool, and I think I need the book as well as the CD -- so much for saving money by buying the download at bleep.com. I get a kick out of retro electronics, like the Radiophonic Workshop stuff for Doctor Who and Raymond Scott's Manhattan Research Inc.

I'm just wondering if John and Benge recorded enough to release, or if it's the kind of thing that'll sit around for a couple of years until someone decides what to do with it.

Oh Brilliant!!! Must get 'Twenty Systems'. Listening to '1987 Kawai K5' - it makes your brain tingle.

It looks like heaven to every analogue synth fan! I'd rather dream of having this than owning a red Ferrari laugh

John must have sailed through these machines, some of them he has used in the past. John is a maestro in writing songs out of analogue sounds.

Interesting should be the collaboration or Foxx's solo recordings in this studio.

I do hope we get a proper set of songs out of this, rather than loads of white noise, bleeps and knob-twiddling.
