Well, mostly... three of the songs below are on Glimmer, but for a project like this it seems appropriate to me to keep them in the context of their related remixes.

Anyway, I'm playing with making audio CD collections of random tracks I've bought from itunes or emusic, legally downloaded for free, ripped from CDs I own, etc. I assume that since this is for my own use, there are no legal concerns with doing this or discussing it here. The tentative tracklisting looks like this:

disc 1
01 Free Robot (John Foxx and Metamatics Free Robot EP 2005)
02 Trinity’s Ghost (John Foxx and Metamatics Free Robot EP 2005)
03 Free Robot (radio edit) (John Foxx and Metamatics Free Robot EP 2005)
04 4am on Spectre Canal (John Foxx remix) (Music for Heroes 3 2004)
05 She Robot vs 4am on Spectre Canal (Future Music cover mount CD March 2004)
06 Freeze Frame (extended version) (The Hidden Man 2006)
07 Running in Traffic (The Hidden Man 2006)
08 Burning Car (Dubterror remix) (Burning Car/Twentieth Century remix 12" 2008)
09 Twentieth Century (Dubterror remix) (Burning Car/Twentieth Century remix 12" 2008)
10 Impossible (Jori Hulkkonen remix) (Townsend Records exclusive mp3s 2008)
11 Neuro Video (Jori Hulkkonen remix) (Townsend Records exclusive mp3s 2008)

disc 2
01 Dislocated (radio edit) (Jori Hulkkonen: Dislocated CD EP 2005)
02 Dislocated (album version) (Jori Hulkkonen: Dislocated CD EP 2005)
03 Dislocated (Jussa Pekki remix) (Jori Hulkkonen: Dislocated CD EP 2005)
04 Dislocated (Huoratron remix) (Jori Hulkkonen: Dislocated 12" EP 2005)
05 Pajatso (Jori Hulkkonen: Dislocated CD EP 2005)
06 Never Been Here Before (Jori Hulkkanen: Errare Machinale Est 2008)
07 Never Been Here Before (Jori Hulkkonen dub) (Jori Hulkkanen: Never Been Here Before EP 2008)
08 Never Been Here Before (Sasse dub) (Jori Hulkkanen: Never Been Here Before EP 2008)
09 Never Been Here Before (Jeff Benett mix) (Jori Hulkkanen: Never Been Here Before EP 2008)
10 Never Been Here Before (Sasse vocal mix) (Jori Hulkkanen: Never Been Here Before EP 2008)

So what does that leave out? It doesn't include old songs like "Hanging in the Air" or "Shadow of Your Smile," but their sound wouldn't really fit in here. Likewise for the three Nation 12 tracks that didn't make it on to the Nation 12 CD (two more remixes of songs already on there, and "Bonus Beats," which is just that: beats, no song). There's another remix or two on the "Dislocated" 12", nowhere to be found online, legally or otherwise. There was also an mp3 of a radio edit for "Never Been Here Before" on the label's website, but it was a low quality rip and seemed to be just part of the album version anyway.

Am I forgetting something that would fit nicely on one of these?

For that matter, I don't think there's any John Foxx involvement in "Trinity's Ghost" or "Pajatso," other than them being on singles with Foxx collaborations. Anyone know otherwise?

I always thought "Trinity's Ghost" was actually the same track?

Otherwise, its not something I've heard has anything to do with John. You're right about Pajatso - its a Hulkonnen solo track.

Seems a pretty comprehensive list to me, except you don't have the vanity Project's remix of "Mr No" in there :p

Is the Future Music CD version of She Robot different to the Free Robot version??

The Future Music track is a 3 minute long merging of Robot and 4am. Not necessarily essential, but I have that Future Music CD, so what the heck.

Trinity's Ghost is an instrumental track. Haven't listened to it closely enough to tell whether it's built on elements of Free Robot, but it sounds different enough to me.

Haven't been able to find a digital version of that anywhere, legal or otherwise. Not on the big services like itunes, not on the specialist sites like beatport and djdownload. Very frustrating.

Hi Steve

As far as I know did John and Lee Norris(Metamatics) a session for Future music in 2004 where they were asked to remix one track of each other.
So Lee Norris remixed She Robot - which became Free Robot, And John remixed 4 am on spectre canal - which became Trinity's Ghost.
If you listen to Trinity's Ghost exactly you can find some sound elements of 4 am on spectre canal.
The same goes for Free Robot and She Robot.

Both tracks sounding very much like their
musicians own style, for my opinion.

So Trinity's Ghost is an John Foxx/Louis Gordon track. ('cause Louis was involved in it).

wink Andreas

Yes, this is right. Trinity's ghost is the same track which is on Music for Heroes 3 under the name of 4 am on spectre canal. The reason this is the name of Metamatics Original version is simply that the remix had no name at the time of the release of Music for Heroes, I guess. The name Trinity's Ghost it becames later with the release of the Free Robot 12 " vinyl.

The Original version of 4 am on spectre canal by Metamatics you can find on his NildraHain EP from 2005.

Thanks for the clarification. I hadn't actually listened to all the tracks and didn't notice that. Good thing I haven't actually burned anything yet.

Anyone have any ideas on how to get the Mr No remix?

You're welcome, Steve. smile

I don't know where you can get the Mr.No track - I have it only on Vinyl.
But I know about another remix:
Underpass remixed by Clashcorner.
I had it in the past on a CDR - but it gone lost as I changed my flats...
Perhaps you have luck and find it as a download anywhere...

I've found a dj mix with the Clashcorner remix, but figuring out where the song begins and ends in a continuous mix is a bit of a challenge. I may just pick arbitrary fade in and fade out points. Not the best option, and it's just a 128kbps wma file, but it doesn't seem to be for sale anywhere.

Also discovered something else: a compilation called The Disco-Tech Of... Alexander Robotnick has a version of Underpass. It doesn't sound like a proper remix, just an edited (2:49) version with some extra percussion running through the song.

Can I update this list with:

Luminous (extended version) - Foxx / Guthrie

Shifting City (from TQM) - read by Foxx

both off Townsend I think.
