I know many of you will feel that 2008 has been a bumper year with all the albums & gigs that John has produced, I love John, his albums, gigs, plus when I’ve ever had the chance to meet him, he seems to be a great bloke, a bit shy perhaps, but never the less, a decent guy who will always give his time & attention at gigs, no matter what total pains we can be. Now, my gripe?, it is only MY opinion, but I cannot get really excited by all the recent re-masters, “live”, & Best of albums currently being released, over the many years I have followed John since Ultravox, & have brought all his work, so I can’t see the point in buying yet another format of previous work, I will bide my time & money until next year when he releases some “new” albums, in the meantime I hope all his recent releases sell well & bring John & Louis much money, so that they can produce more new albums for many years to come, now go forth & spend, & thank you.

I would much prefer something new to something remastered or reworked, so I hope the repurposed and repackaged material sells well enough to serve as a reminder to John Foxx that there is a dedicated following out there, encouraging him to keep at it. I try to justify my repurchases of already-owned material as an investment in, or subsidy of, his future output . . .

Im sure the remaining three early solo albums ('The Garden', 'TGS', and 'IMW') are being re-released all at once, as to make room and time for new material whenever that may be.

But all of these re-issues (The Garden, The Golden Section and In Mysterious Ways) are very different to their respective previous versions.
They've all been remastered, they all contain a second disc which itself features a raft of previously unreleased tracks, and they all feature expanded artwork.
So some of the material contained on these re-issues is 'new' as it's never been available before.

Indeed Mr. Harris, most Foxx fans will be buying them for the 2nd CD, which justifies the little asking price, if you ask me.

For sure, each album is retailing at a bargain price, but at the end of the day, after all these years the albums will contain outtakes, & rehashes, which personally I don’t wish to spend MY money on, I’m not saying YOU should ignore the albums, by all means spend & enjoy, if that floats your boat, I’ll wait for the new material, in the new year.

Well, it all depends on whether you think that the new addition can add any value to your experience or understanding of the original, and it also depends much more on the entertainment, or artistic quality of the original material. With John’s solo albums that’s a definite Yes for me, okay, I never thought I’d be re-visiting, never mind re-buying one of these, perhaps even two of these in particular again, (I wouldn’t say which ones, I think you all know already ), but the additional material they all come with is a little bit like getting some of the sketches, notes, or preliminary drawings with the final painting. If it’s a picture I liked the look of then I’m very keen on seeing at least something more of what else was going on at the time, and if it’s a picture that I wasn’t fully pleased with, well, I’m either hoping for a better view, or just plain curious about what the painter left out.

That is good enough for me.
