I just thought that you'd all like to know that John and Steve are now safely in Japan in advance of the shows on Sunday and Monday - I understand that Louis, Chris 1 and Chris 2 are due to arrive sometime tomorrow evening.

Their usual retinue of 'five' has been swelled by 'one' for these particular shows - namely 'me'.

The flight (out of Heathrow to Narita) was somewhere in the region of eleven hours - and is probably why I'm currently unable to sleep (please excuse any spelling mistakes!). The hotel doesn't have wireless (which surprised all of us!) and so I find myself (at 3:30am - Japanese time) in an internet cafe across the road writing this.

I hope that I'll be able to get to another keyboard shortly to let you all know what's been happening - again, please excuse the inevitable irregularity.

This evening has been REALLY good - we've been shown some of the many sights in and around Shinjuku. We've also had the most amazing meal - Japanese food is beautiful. wink

Shinjuku at night is like a scene straight out of Blade Runner - but without the constant rain. Apparently, that's due sometime tomorrow. Until then...

You lucky bugger. I hope you have a great time out there Rob and you certainly deserve it with your efforts on the JF and Ultravox releases.

Hope you and all the party have a great time.

I did my trip to Japan in 1996 for a week.

I know what you mean about Blade Runner, its where Ridley got some inspiration.

I found that I couldnt get my sleep patterns right out there.I ended awake up constantly at 3am.

I've been all over the world & that was the trip that made me suffer the most.

Coming back it took me a few weeks to get myself right sleepwise.Hope you are all recovered in time for Cargo. wink

Japan is an amazing place. You can also end up eating the strangest things.Sea slug was the strangest I had.

Japan is what I always envisioned the sci-fi future looking like.

Enjoy

You can take a film and John can provide the soundtrack smile

Have a great time.

From my western viewpoint it all sounds fascinating, and I'm sure John and Louis will be much inspired by the experience.

Hope it remains a good trip for everyone involved,
looking forward to more posts about it from you Rob smile

Yes, I know exactly what you mean - it's certainly not cheap. But, I figured that it was a 'once in a lifetime' opportunity - and so I'd better make the most of it.

In a year when I wasn't planning to do any travelling at all I've certainly managed to somehow rack up a few 'frequent flyer' points... laugh

I managed to 'finally' fall asleep at just after 04:00 - and so far I feel OK today. It's about 15:30 here and I'm not TOO tired... at the moment...

Absolutely - Shinjuku at midnight is pretty much Animoid Row... even some of the noises... if you know the film, you'll even hear something VERY SIMILAR to the Walk Now... Walk Now... and Don't Walk... Don't Walk traffic crossing signs... eek

Looks like it's gonna be very difficult for me to 'post' any pictures just yet (certainly from an internet cafe), but already I've managed to work through a couple of camera cards. I'll post some as soon as I can... laugh

So, what's been happening so far today?

The order of the day has been to relax and take it easy - so nothing too energetic! So, this morning the three of us took a slow leisurely stroll around Shinjuku - mainly in order to get our bearings. Sat drinking tea, while watching the world go by - which seems to be one of our favourite pastimes. It all looks vastly different during the day. There's a park nearby called Shinjuku Gyoen which is very beautiful - we ambled round that until it started to rain, and instead of going straight back to the hotel, I decided to write this.

I think we're heading off into Shibuya later tonight to have a look around. Until then...
