Fine words by Steve.

When Steve mentioned that they had discovered other tapes with more bits from Metamatic I just gave a big smile. laugh Whether it takes 2 or 5 years to make them into listenable form I'll be certainly waiting. It also applies to tracks relating to the other reissues.

There could be all the parts to The Quiet Man and Cities of Light. Wow!

I'm sure there is a John Foxx fan or a newly converted John Foxx fan out there who would provide all the necessary equipment free of charge to John.

All for art's sake!

I really couldn't better myself!

Perhaps there should be an online Metamatic radio station - with constant streaming, with one track merging into another, and when John masters another piece from the boxes of Metamatic tapes it will then be merged in to the station playlist so we can hear it. smile

Or a website like Byrne & Eno's where we can mix a track or two ourselves using the raw master material smile

I'm dreaming of course but here's hoping!

'Glimmer' is now available for pre-order on Amazon for £6.99, however the great man has again been listed as Johnny Foxx;

Hello everyone,

Just a very quick note to let you all know that, irrespective of what was said in the last "Metamatic Update", signed copies of John's forthcoming compilation album "Glimmer" WON'T be available on pre-order. However, Townsend Records will have signed copies of the Dubterror / Karborn remix of the "Burning Car" twelve inch single. Apologies for any confusion this may have caused.

Regards,

Rob
Wait, so, perhaps I'm just sleepy right now (it is 3am) or the clarification email wasn't clear enough for me.

I read the first email which said the first fifty would be signed and did a great scramble to order it, which turned out to be a giant pain because the server was down and I had to wait for it to come back up. Then, when I got my confirmation mail I also got the Metamatic update pasted above.

So, is a signed copy just not available when you preorder or are NONE at all going to be signed? frown

Edit: Okay, I emailed Townsend Records and asked them to cancel the CD (for now) and instead switch it to the Burning Car vinyl. I sure hope I can still get an autographed copy. I have not a single thing autographed by him and I'd sure love something, y'know? :\

I think the email from Townsend is correct:-

John Foxx has teamed up with Dubterror and Karborn to produce a new ltd edition Burning Car/20th Century vinyl release. Only 500 copies are being pressed up on 12 inch vinyl, they feature Dubterror's new mixes of the tracks and Karborn's artwork on the label.

***The first 50 copies will be signed by John Foxx, these will be assigned in strict order of when orders are received.***

Regards

Townsend Records

Yeah, I'd gathered... I was just unclear on whether the Glimmer CD would be signed at all or just not available on preorder. I'm about ready to collapse asleep, so I'm a bit loopy. I edited my post above. laugh

The original intention was for there to be some signed copies available on pre-order through Townsend Records. But, logistically this has proven very difficult to sort out - not least because John will be in Japan when the Glimmer album is actually released.

So let me get this straight, Rob -- if my preordered copy of Glimmer from Townsend does in fact arrive with a signature, it will be from the aforementioned "Johnny Foxx" instead of Mr. Dennis Leigh using his synth pseudonym? No resale value on eBay, I guess . . . :p

It seems not so long ago to me that I had only just a handful of John’s albums on CD: The Garden Virgin Vault 93, followed by Shifting City, and Cathedral Oceans I, and the Edsel Garden and Metamatic releases.

In fact I only bought Modern Art back in 2002 to make a mix CD for a younger work colleague. He was serious about his musical tastes and was exploring the music of 60’s garage and obscure psychedelic bands, and attempting to introduce them to me! it lead on into a conversation about when he was born in the 80’s, and he had an interest in hearing more of the ‘alternative’ synth music then, as it was sometimes dropped into the mix at a pre-club venue he went to. He’d heard a track or two by that John Foxx guy, (Burning Car, I think).

Well, the Modern Art/Garden/Metamatic mix went down very well, and I left with a warm feeling that my work there was done, and another member of a younger generation had been introduced to the Foxx legacy smile

Well done Steve, long may John be finding dusty cardboard boxes at the back of his garage, and long may people such as yourself, Rob, Cerise, et al, work to ensure us 'impatienties' hear music new and old.
I think like most people I‘m happy to get Glimmer for the tracks I don’t already have on CD, and also for the alternative/early versions, and the John/Louis versions of the Ultravox tracks.

I think the CD will definitely work for anyone not too familiar with Johns past music, as an alternative to doing my own mix for someone (could there be an alternative to that!), I think I’d be happy enough to point that work colleague in the direction of Glimmer, or anyone else looking to put their toe into the water. If there ever is a Glimmer Vol. 2 then hopefully it will cover both more recent ground, and SC, and TPOE, and still have a few surprises also.

As regards any other possible/planned/unexpected Indiana Jones type discoveries or revelations, I totally agree with that statement smile

It's definitely still forthcoming

…now I’m very excited by that…
