The other day I started listening to Subterranean Omnidelic Exotour just as a thunderstorm started. It wasn't a huge, raging storm like we get in summer up here on the Highveld (about 1600m above sea level), and thunder is relatively rare in winter, as is rain, but the thunder and lightning provided such an excellent accompaniment to the album it was uncanny. Sometimes a crash of thunder would happen just at what seemed an appropriate moment in the music. I've never known a more appropriate atmosphere for listening to an album! Anyone else had a similar experience whilst listening to John? Maybe I'll buy an mp3 player and go listen to The Garden in the Walter Sissulu National Botanical Gradens (I know Scotney Castle would be a more appropriate setting but it's 6000 miles away now!).

What an excellent little story! I can just imagine how thunder and lightening electrified your listening experience!

For the Exotour, I think the occasional rumble and flash wouldn't go amiss. Just look at all the electricity on the cover of Retro Future.

Listening to music whilst walking outdoors can take the experience to another level. I'm yet to try it but I'm thinking that listening to Cathedral Oceans whilst walking in the countryside or local woods after rainfall would be interesting, with all the smells and cool air.

Thunderbolt and lightening, very very frightening. smile

But seriously, Twilight's Last Gleaming has a percussion sound that reminds me a little of rolling thunder.

I love the sound of thunder and use it a lot in my own music. The only time I don't like it is at 3am when I'm trying to sleep. And believe me, the summer thunder storms here can be ferocious and awe inspiring. Maybe this summer (i.e. around December / January) I'll try and record a few video clips, now we have a decent camcorder, and post them online to let you see.

I'll swap you for bushfire smoke on a hot, sticky Sydney summer night.

Just don't get zapped/fried in the process frown
