Yes, you are right about the music.
But I named my favourites for the film stuff - and for that, The Projectionist is one of the best - if not THE best, for my opinion.

Interesting observations.
Musically, I think The Projectionist is one of the strongest tracks, but visually I found it lacks 'something' and doesn't really work.

It has improved a lot since Brighton last year, but still I'm not sure it really 'fits' with the rest of the material as comfortably as it might. Maybe its not grainy, fragmented and imperfect enough?

This is picking nits though - just found other different opinions fascinating. laugh

I especially like Hand-Held Skies - a simply beautiful track. As for the rest - A Peripheral Character, Skyscraper, Kurfürstendamm and Looped Los Angeles are all constantly clamouring for me to keep them on repeat.

The strangest thing is how long an idea will sit with John before he 'releases' it - I destinctly remember being shown the video footage of the woman swimming (which finally surfaced in Underwater Automobiles) some ten or so years ago. Then it was accompanied by a different piece of music - and there was absolutely no mention of Colour Movies, Tiny or otherwise.

Kurfurstendamm is wonderful. Not only the film but I absloutely adore the music too. TCM is still evolving, and is a wonderful creation.

I actually find 'Waving' from Mike barker very emotional too.

I have gained a lot of inspiration from TCM.

Birdsong: I think the texture of The Projectionist is different because it was shot for the project, rather than being entirely assembled from found footage.

Some of the faces are recognisable to JF followers, and I've even spotted a few seconds of a young JF as one of the 'overlays'.

Rob - interesting about the ten-year idea gestation period. I wonder what will be surfacing next?

I was watching it pretty closely but I must have missed the young John Foxx.

I did think that "The Projectionist" stood out as looking too "new". Similar thing with "Kurfürstendamm" actually.

What is very nice too is the discussion at the end of the shows. Though I had asked nothing to John 'cause of my language problems, I enjoyed it a lot listening to his answers to all the questions of the people. This makes the show as a much more special one.

John's answers were very interesting. Until now, I had concluded that most of the films were John's work and that the background to the film makers was purely fictional. It seems I was wrong, and I'm glad! It really is a fascinating project.

My take on it is that the 'film-makers' and even the 'Weisz-Bryant archive' are a construct; however much of the footage itself is genuinely found and old - collected by Foxx and Barker and assembled by themselves.

Some of the footage is clearly shot for the project, like The Projectionist - and maybe Hand-Held Skies .

The artifice is part of the project and gives it a structure as well as enabling them both to work within necessary constraints.

Or I might be totally wrong.....
