Just a quick question, does anyone know if it is likely that the Metamatic tour was recorded with the possibility of being used for an official release? Or did anyone ask John at the gigs about this?

I know there have been previous live albums but this tour included rare tracks and also ones played with their original arrangments, sounds, and lyrics such as Underpass (not as Overpass)...

The ICA gig was recorded(I noticed the audiance mics at either side of the stage) but wether it was good enough to use or wether it was just for archive use I don't know

We've only just got Retro Future... we don't need another live album yet! Maybe in 2017 wink

But seriously - by all accounts, not all the songs worked as well live, and I would much rather listen to the original album than a live version.

However a live DVD film of a Metamatic show would be very interesting...

Yes, I think I would prefer something visual such as a Live DVD too.

It would be nice if the ICA footage was released.

I think this would be a release too far. I don't think that the performance was visually exciting enough to warrant a DVD. And let's be honest, most if not quite all of the music was sequenced and the arrangements were very much based on the originals.

Maybe one day but, like Martin, I don't want to shell out for yet another Metamatic right now.

As the live shows have developed into 'tighter' arrangements of songs close to the originals, and more visual backdrops than before, I think this is the perfect time for a live cd and even the dvd. I think it would be a missed opportunity to wait for another show, when this one is THE 'Metamatic show'. I still dont think all the other solo albums should be released so soon as to detract from new material though. It appears that the show was only audio recorded though, but it would still be an important release.

I wonder how different it would have been, had he toured Metamatic in 1980....

Probably the same difference as Numans original 'Teletour' and hes 'Telekon Shows'. I think of these 'album gig tours' (of any artist) as like a cover version of their original tour, so its unlikely to be as good. Sadly we never had the original, in this case. frown
