Now, I don't do this often but having just received a copy of Metal Beat double CD from a friend who attended the ICA gig I for one would love to here this version of my ultimate fave Metamatic track in its entirety. In my opinion it's the one track which, being track one on THE electronic LP of 1980, defines that era of electronic music and also demonstrates John's talent, personal influences and influence on other artists. Bearing in mind how appreciative we all are of new stuff (and haven't we had it good since 1997) who, like me, would be interested in something special like a ltd edition run on good ol' reliable analogue vinyl... on the Metamatic label of course!

How about Metamatic in surround sound like Jarre Aero compilation?

I think you have a good case!

Vinyl is making something of a comeback after all, so why not. It isn't the 'dead' medium we may have once thought.
I recall a year or two ago I passed a place called Tripp Records in Southampton, selling drum 'n bass stuff etc and supplying DJs with vinyl. It was the first place I ever saw a copy of Crash and Burn on black plastic, and my eyes nearly popped out. The cover looked amazing laugh

It's a very retro-future concept. Nice idea...

'The Garden' was re-issued on vinyl a year or so ago on the Get Back label so I was hoping Metamatic would get a vinyl release too...

I said A 180gm DJ-FRIENDLY DOUBLE VINYL EDITION OF METAMATIC IN A GATEFOLD SLEEVE would be a great thing to have in my collection...

...we can dream eh? wink

Oops, just noticed I gave the wrong record label at the end of my original post. Obviously any such release would have to be on the Metal Beat label and use the authentic Grey & White design. I was also thinking about a suitable cover for this "fantasy" release and would have thought there are plenty of Chris Gabrin shots to choose from. Rob, will these see the light of day outside of those that were published in the early 80's music papers? Also, what would your view be (from a fan perspective) on such a fantasy release seeing the light of day wink

Hmmm, Metamatic in surround? Not something I'd be too enamoured in hearing. Having got used to the album in stereo for the last 1/4 century eek I'm so used to hearing all the bleeps coming at me from where the artist originally intended. I think Aero is something completely different as Jarre wanted the music to envelope the listener from the outset.

Personally, I wouldn't want to hear any other version of Metamatic. Now that it has been remastered and reissued, as hopefully the definitive CD version.

It would be very interesting to hear extended or even instrumental versions of some of the songs, but I don't think it would work well as a whole 'extended' album.

'Metamatic' is collection of classic tracks, and i would not like to heard new studio versions.
A vinyl reissue of 'Metamatic' to look as close to the original is a good idea though, but i would only like it to go ahead if the other three solo albums were reissued to complete the set.

Would be good from a collector's point of view. Original vinyls and new vinyls. Glad I still have a working turntable smile

DM has reissued remastered vinyls but they are a bit pricey.

Maybe it wasn't clear in my 1st post which opened this thread but basically I'd be REALLY happy with a 1-sided 12" single of the extended Plaza with Chris Gabrin photo as artwork... (hint hint) laugh
