Yes ive always had that view, which is why its best to not always say things even if it is known about artists. The Quiet Man should have the right to stay that way. the music and art is enough for me. wink

I share that view. John's private life is no-one's business. But I can't but help feel fascinated the way everyone's been speculating about where he might be living and so on; the amount we don't know about him is immense, yet adds to the pleasure...

I heard from a source close to John that Duran Duran asked him to support them on their world tour last year. I would have thought that it must have been tempting financially. However, he turned it down because for one thing it would have meant putting his other work and creative life on hold for a year. It would be interesting to know if he felt doing it would also compromise his artistic integrity.

To me that would fall into that category we discussed on the thread about supporting acts better than the main event. And can you imagine the dichotomy of the audience.

I stood at a support gig of John & Louis for the Human League and for my opinion it doesn't work well. The music style of both are too different. After I saw John & Louis I began to be boored of the League 'cause they did only their Pop style music - no tracks of Reproduction or Travelogue ( except Empire State Human at the end!) which disappointed me a lot. The music from the first two League albums would work nice together with John's music.
Perhaps this is more a Mr.Ware than a Mr. Oakey thing?!

Gary Numan and John Foxx would work better together but I would prefer too the older stuff of Gary Numan.

Another interesting combination would be Billy Currie supporting John & Louis, for my opinion.
Billie's solo stuff includes some good tracks. At least he is a master on the fiddle.

And at the end of the gig Billy comes on stage again and plays "I want to be a machine "together with John & Louis. How great would that be ?

Ah, too much dreaming...

Although I'm a big fan of JF and Ultravox, I don't think that because I like them it's fair to say that they're objectively "better" than the Human League, or Gary Numan, or Duran Duran. Any artist who says "You've sold a hundred times more records than me but I'm too good to support you" is a fool, and John is no fool.

The main objection I'd make to John supporting other artists is that the support-band role is traditionally for new and upcoming artists, not members of the rock establishment.

Same as Andreas here, when John and Louis supported HL here in Glasgow we were all at the front, about 3 songs into the Leauge we went to the bar bored!!
(I did manage to nab Susan's towel though, and got it sighned by the band smile ,no I didn't tell them I was bored)

As much as i like the League, especially the first two albums, its clear they had top billing due to being the most popular commercially. The billing would have been in reverse if it was down to artistic credibility. Nice little set from John and Louis that night though.

Regarding Duran Duran...this just in:

Duran Duran will play Broadway's Barrymore Theatre next month for two weeks to mark the release of its new album "Red Carpet Massacre"

WOW. Imagine if ......
Two weeks on Broadway is something.
