In Numans case, the track also included real guitar and drums. So its either Foxx, the League, or something odd like Mr D stated.

I am fairly certain that it is NOT The Human League. They were never on TOTP before 'Dare' and that was released in 1981. In fact I reckon most of their appearances were on video.

http://www.thehumanleague.net/history.html - search for 'Pops.'

So who could it be? The band has to have appeared on TOTP 'live' (i.e. no videos or Pan's People!) with a song containing only synthesizers, drum machines and/or voice.

What about 'Popcorn'?

Well Mr D was right about the first league track on TOTP's. 'Being Boiled' was too early but The League were on before the girls joined.

But that was nowhere near the first all electronic act on The Pop's.

as it was most likely all synths or -

The Telstar hit that was recorded at holloway road.
This appears to be earlier than 'Popcorn', but is said to include guitars etc.

I'm back....
the Human League did Rock n Roll on TOTP in May 1980 (ie. after Underpass) .. well documented on YouTube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-TnAWHq9fp8
and a moment I can never forget (jaw duly dropping..). They were also on other 'minor' music shows even before that. They never did Being Boiled on TOTP; they had to wait another year before going on again with Sound of the Crowd.

Pretty sure Belgian avantgarde synth.poppers Telex did TOTP too with Rock Around the Clock which would've been 1979. .see this, altho I don't know if it's actually TOTP : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8XGXHDMIJw4

I don't recall seeing Kraftwerk on TOTP apart from a 'video' of The Model when it hit No. 1 (?) in 1981.

Telex is listed as playing TOTP in 1979 and the presence of a typical TOTP studio audience (a lot of slightly bemused teenagers) in the clip would indicate that they indeed pre-date JF.

I love the old Quantex video effects. Takes me right back!

Anyone know if a TOTP archive exists?
