Yeah - Phil Oakey was at John's gig in Sheffield last year - I got a photo of him smile

I thought it was nice of him to go, and he looked like he really enjoyed the show.

I'll have a look for that Numan site - it was Belgian or something...

I cannot even fathom a comparison between those two (other than the fact they both used synths). [/b]

Sure does, check out The Human League - 'Live At The Dome' dvd. Phil namechecks the album midway into the set.

..yeah suppose you're right but Oakey and pals were dead keen on getting on TOTP as one of the first synth bands but Gazza got there first . .I'll find the interview where he says it , it's on YouTube ..

...and there's a Sunday Times (?) article somewhere in the 'My record collection' or something section and he's pictured gleefully holding a copy of 'matic.

Talk about an iconic photograph!!

With regards to the leagues dvd, Phil namechecks Numan, and especially Foxx and Metamatic. Then has to be reminded to state Louis too.

I think John was the first all-synth act to appear on TOTP (leastwise in the studio.) Numan appeared prior to JF in 1979 but his "on-screen" band always included bass guitar and real drums.

You're probably right .. THL did Rock n Roll a few months after Underpass. Perhaps Telex doing Rock Around the Clock was somewhere around there somewhere?
