Interesting to read the discussion surrounding the alternate version of "Miles Away". I was wondering if the alternate version of "20th Century" that I recall being used for the credits of the "youf" programme "20th Century Box" (yes I'm that old!!) may resurface on the rarities portion of the new double Metamatic and is indeed as different as I remember?
Also a different "Burning Car" exsists as I'm sure most of you are aware from another programme called "Fun Factory".

My recollection is that 20th Century was written especially as the theme for '20th Century Box' and was then 'expanded' into the track which appeared on the 'Burning Car' b-side. The theme was available on YouTube for a while but was then pulled for copyright reasons. Shame, as I didn't take a recording of it.

Why is JF miming to what is ostensibly a different version of 'Burning Car'? Dunno. I know that around that time, there were rules about what you could and could not mime to on TV, especially when it came to 'Top of the Pops.' The rule was something like: you could only mime to something which had been recorded in the previous 24 hours. So the idea was that prior to your appearance on TOTP you went into a studio, re-recorded your single and then pitched up at Broadcasting House with a copy of that re-recording. Of course what usually happened was that bands went into a studio, twiddled a few knobs, smoked a bit of weed and then arrived at BH with a tape of the original song!

The FF version sounds like the original backing track with different voice and solo synth - clearly both JF and Sunshine are miming.

Thanks Harold
I had no idea "20th Century" was commisioned for the programme first.
I wonder if the new 2CD Metamatic will be split into the original on CD1 and bonus on CD2.That's if one disc is enough space for all the new goodies!?

Hmm. "Sunshine"? That wouldn't be Sunshine Patterson, would it, of "Eddie & Sunshine (Eddie being Eddie Maelov)... ????

I have a couple of 12" singles by E&S: "Perfect Stranger, and "Somewhere in Europe". Both Excellent, I might add.

Yes, or at least I presume it is her. I saw E&S supporting Ultravox in 1981 at the Hammersmith Odeon. I confess they didn't do a lot for me.

I'll second that.
Great in support of Foxx in 1983

And I'm sure I have that 20th Century Box introduction somewhere. It's only a really short piece as I recall

The subject of the 20th Century Box theme is spread across a couple of threads but as this appears to be the longest I thought I'd share this little gem which I've just upped ...

Excellent - thanks!

Good to know someone has this.

It was 'upped' to youtube a year or so ago but deleted after five minutes...(well, ish).
Maybe this time we can all enjoy it for a bit longer
