Hi Sarah I don't recall this clip, but I'm wondering if its the Spanish TV interview you are referring to? If so, yes, it is truly crunge-making.

If so, yes, it is truly crunge-making. Mmm, I've got the Spanish one, the one with the woman with the enormous hair on 'Le edad d'oro' or something like that. Translators at the ready... This other one is a very short clip, and it's a different show. It's all done in English. The only reason I thought it might be French is because at the end of the interview, just as the clip cuts off, you hear a voice say 'et maintenant'. Puzzling. Thanks for replying though, Martin. We'll have to dig a bit deeper..... Sarah

Hi Sarah - long time no mail I think I've got the stripey shirt interview on an Ultravox compilation, and am pretty sure it was Old Grey Whistle Test mid-80s. I'll try and put it on You Tube - if I can work out how!

Only about a minute, I'm afraid - it's probably the same e-bay compilation that I have then! I would check, but it's in the garage!

No worries, Steve! Certainly sounds like the same compilation to me! I have got a disc with a really atrocious quality interview on it from France. I think the sound isn't too bad, but the picture is appalling - all black and white and fuzzy. It just features John sitting in a chair talking about (amongst other things) leaving Ultravox and (if I remember correctly) referring to being in a band like 'being married to four people, and being married to one person is too much'. Or something along those lines. I don't know if you or anyone has got this in better quality? Cheers! Sarah

Cheers, Brian - I've seen that interview before, but that's a better quality version. Absolutely hilarious, and also very interesting to see John talking during the Ultravox era. I've only ever seen/heard later interviews.
Sarah - I've seen a transcript of the French one you mentioned online (remembered the quote). It's quite a lengthy interview, and he says a bit more than usual about the circumstances of his leaving the band, if I remember rightly. Never heard about the Spanish one, though, from 'The Golden Age' or whatever it's called...

Hi Sarah - I've had a rummage, and found that I too have the black and white interview you mentioned above, from 1980. Cut with excerpts from the Underpass and He's A Liquid videos. And a transcript also somewhere. Isn't it from Belgium?
But I don't have the French "stripey shirt" interview as far as I know, so I'd be very happy to see that

But I don't have the French "stripey shirt" interview as far as I know, so I'd be very happy to see that It really is a very short clip, and possibly from the Whistle Test. I've got it on the end of an Ultravox! disc (although it's mainly Midge era), and I think I may have it on another disc too. I'll have a good root round. When I find it I'll watch it again and let you know. Sarah
