I've seen them every few years now since the mid 90s...

Things that would be good would be:
- as much variety in setlists as possible
- cut some of the songs down shorter - they loop on and on for too long sometimes
- yeah, get Robin Simon to play guitar

Not at all!!
The energy from Louis totaly complements Johns 'too cool for school' attitude!
As long as they keep mixing up the songs they play then I'm one happy bunny smile

This is something F1, I, and several others always agreed on, even in those sometimes very heated debates at Johns EV threads.

The recent 'Live From A Room' has IMO improved on the 'Exotour' sound. But some guitar along with the stage projections would still bring more feeling into the performance. And would the SOR album been such a classic if every songs drums was from a machine. I think the need for a drummer is there too.

At first the thrill of just seeing John live after waiting 25 years was enough, but during last summer's tour I confess I did get a little bored, particularly during the needlessly extended version of "Nightlife" (it wasn't much of a song before it was extended IMHO).

That said, when you think about it, watching people playing musical instruments isn't particularly exciting in 99% of cases - more so when it's two men with keyboards.

I certainly think the "visuals" route is worth looking at, particulaly given John's interest and talents in this field. It doesn't have to be expensive either - just a projector, er...projecting random images or short films onto the wall behind John and Louis would be enough.

There was a point around 'Assembly' / Nation 12, when I honestly believed I would never, ever get to see John live - so I never get bored at his gigs. There's usually at least one jaw-dropping moment that will remain burned in my memory long after the event is over (too many to mention now).

However my missus says that if he does another extended version of 'Burning Car' she will kill him! laugh

Personally, John can whistle 'Burning Car' over and over again and I'd still pay to see it smile

Regarding projected images - I wonder if the reason he hasn't done it is because he wants to do it properly - being as he is an expert at it after all - and at present, doesn't have the means to do it his images justice in a live environment.

I know this might start another thread, but I'm with you garry.

I think BURNING CAR is the best of all their live material...
That and Shifting City could never go on long enough ay a gig

I don't however, think these longer 'live' versions sound nearly as good on a CD in a more 'domestic' environment.
That's when they get boring.
I am tiring of "Live From A Room", for instance.

I haven't listened to that for quite a while - I've been concentrating on the newer material of 'TCM', 'From Trash' and 'Sideways'. I was never enamoured by any version of 'Nightlife' but I do think the new version of 'Touch and Go' is superior to the original.

Apologies to everyone for going slightly off-topic

I've only just got Live From a Room so not bored yet! It does seem a little better than Exotour though, which gets a bit tedious at times.
