Funnily enough I was going to post this in the '5 songs' thread, but then I saw Will's post....

I would love to see John Foxx cover 'Song to the Siren' originally by Tim Buckley. It lends itself well to synthesisers ('This Mortal Coil' have done it), and John's liquid gold vocals would work really well.

Ah, This mortal coil - A great CD!

I have no idea for a cover song done by John - I love his music done by himself so I'm not sure if I want to hear him covering other stuff.

But as far as I know, he did a cover of Fats Waller's Ain't Misbehavin in his Tiger Lily era and I like this track. He also done a remix of Metamatic's "4 am on spectre canal" ,which is named "Trinity's Ghost", which is a brilliant instrumental track for my opinion. Sounds like a totally other track - very John Foxx style!

So I have to admit, it could be interesting to listen to another cover... wink

Here's my top five for the one off gig:

Miles Away-always loved this song, still got it on vinyl from way back when. A bona fide classic.

Here We Go-favourite song from way back when I thought John was gone for good, bought it and saw John and Louis live that year in Manchester. I was so broke at the time I sold a camera lying round the house to get tickets.

Camera- the pathos of the lyrics makes me want to cry almost every time I hear it. My wife bought me the album for Christmas the year it was out, and yes, I did cry-wonderful track.

In a Silent Way- more like this please guys! This to me is 'old style' John fused with his and Louis' newer work to the max. What a thundering great track.

The Lifting Sky- back then, I too wore a loose cravat, baggy trousers and sported mad wavy hair (all but gone now mind) and had a consuming passion for classical art (still do, the art that is). The main melody is so uplifting, it still makes me want to shout out how good is to be alive! Fabulous.

Excellent choice Dave.
"Camera" seems to be doing well... laugh

But this really belongs in the other thread.

The idea of John covering other songs is very appealing. This Mortal Coil is a wonderful choice.
I'd like to suggest a Cocteau Twins song as well, perhaps something from Victorialand?

Otherwise, how about a more upbeat track like "Nightshift" by Siouxsie and The Banshees?

What about 'Photographic' by Depeche Mode! wink

"I take pictures, photographic pictures" - quite fitting for John really!

Best wishes

John has a good voice for crooning, and actually a pretty good high range (check out some of those notes on things like JUST FOR A MOMENT, which he always hits spot on at gigs).

I think he'd pull off some excellent electro versions of Beatles songs!

I like that radio session version of "Shadow of Your Smile." Maybe some old standards, with a little crooning and a little synth. After all, if the Junior Boys can do "No One Cares," which Sinatra recorded back in the 1950s, surely John can do something similar but in his own style.

Very John Foxx! I like the line:

"Now you're leaning on a fountain with the
sunshine on your shoes"

first thought would be "Transport to Central" by The Associates( you all should know by now my love of their work), I think John and Louis could do a fantastic interpretation of this track smile
