Hi Robert

Thanks for that!

I had a feeling that John may have been involved in directing his own vids in some way, but I'm not 100% sure! If you find out anything, let me know!!

Best wishes,

Sarah laugh

Just checked on the back of my vid and it says nothing about who directed the vids. I remember asking john about the underpass vid and saying if he knew the children in the vid. He said they were just extras. Anyone shed some light on how the vids were made.

And I have a feeling that Underpass was actually directed by Russell Mulcahy... I know that Russell directed Vienna and I'm faily sure that I'm not getting confused as a result...

I have been informed that Russell Mulcahy also directed videos for Duran Duran and Queen and also directed the films Highlander and Razorback.

Correct me if I'm wrong...... laugh

Thanks Rob for that bit of info!

Sorry to be a bubble-burster but I have just reread in the EV16 interview that John didn't like any of the videos, except "No One Driving", and didn't feel involved with that side of things.

Personally I think they are great, if a little cheesy in places.

I think they're very typical of their time. I only saw them this year – although it's nice to see John "in action" (despite his obvious discomfort in front of the camera), I have to say they didn't live up to my expectations or standard of the music.

I'm sure if John had been more involved, the results would have been alarmingly different.

John's music is very visual so it doesn't seem that odd to me that he doesn't like them - as the visuals, provided by directors and not John, seem a bit 'obvious' for want of a better word. I also wondered why ‘Burning Car’, ‘Europe After The Rain’ and others never appeared on the video - perhaps these were videos John really didn't like

I can picture it now; it's 1980 and the director is meeting with his team to discuss ideas for making a video...

"Who?"
"John Foxx"
"Never 'eard of 'im"
"Well, we got to do a video to his single, 'Underpass'. Any ideas?"
"...Yeah! I know...why don't we...right...why don't we - put him in a subway!"
"I think the budget will stretch to that..."

I have yet to see the ‘Burning Car’, ‘Europe After The Rain’videos so I'll have a look on YouTube tonight, but I confess I do have a soft spot for the 'Endlessly' video.

While we're talking about the video - does anyone know why 'He's A Liquid' had a video made? Video's were incredibly expensive in 1980 so I assume it must of been a potential single at one time?
