Nice to see tracks like Drive and My Sex being played live again smile

Thank you for sharing your experience and photos Rodney. Sounds like a great gig!

Can any of our Australian friends confirm these?
Yes, There were interviews on RRR and PBS in Melbourne.

They also did 4 tracks live to air on PBS.

As yet another enamoured Adelaide attendee I'm belatedly throwing my voice into the forum mix.

It's been almost a week since the show here, and true to expectations (considering I wandered into the evening as a convalescent) I've lost my voice. So I'm suffering for the art of others, but I'd quite willingly have ended up with pneumonia after such a wonderful evening.

Adelaide, unfortunately, has a reputation for rather poor crowd turnouts to quote unquote 'eclectic' events, promotion or active lack thereof aside -- so a big thankyou to everyone who arranged for the show to take place over here in the first place: you've made this otherwise rather out-of-sorts girl terribly happy.

Thanks Rodney for posting the set list and the pictures.
What an amazing night, worth the 25 year wait! If the crowd lacked at all in numbers they made up for it in enthusiasm, especially during the Endlessly sing along.
Thank you, too, to John and Louis for graciously hanging around to talk to the fans and sign autographs after the gig.
Yours, on an electronic mayhem high,
Katja.

This is all super stuff - thanks to everyone 'down under' for sharing your experiences.
What a truly great place this forum is. laugh

As for the 'live set' on PBS I hope one day to hear it and have been in touch with the radio station for a podcast of the same. eek

Despite what seem to be quite low attendances, the Australian tour has put John in touch at last with his fans over there and been extremely well received.

Brilliant, brilliant. cool

The fact that people went, whether it be 30 or 100 is absolutely great. It's really good to see John playing all over the world this year, reaching out to new audiences and playing to those fans who have ben waiting years to see him.

I did honestly think that because of the recent UK Metamatic gigs, there would be more Metamatic songs in the set. So I'm glad to see I was completely wrong!

Quite a refreshed and energetic looking set! And as others have pointed it out; it's good to see the inclusion of Crash and Burn and The Pleasures of Electricity tracks in there.

I'm very jealous! laugh

I don't think John wants to live in the past too much, and maybe he's got Metamatic "out of his system" now. Either way, I think it's great to see a lot of songs from the last few albums.

I want a poster!

John told the audience that it had been 20 years since he'd been to Australia, but I presumed he was referring to The Golden Section tour in 1983, actually 25 years ago. However, when I asked him about this later, he confirmed that he was indeed in Australia in 1988, for some radio shows.

It's nice to see that the live gigs have rekindled the interest of so many locals and even brought a few Aussies to the forum. It's nice to see you here, Katja. Yes, the endless ending of Endlessly was an awesome closer, wasn't it?

Alex: If only I'd known, I could've got you an autographed poster and sent it to you.

Seeing the Tiny Colour Movies has certainly given me a whole new appreciation of the soundtrack now. Tiny Colour Movies II will hopefully become an eventuality.

The Pleasures Of Electricity is my favourite album from John & Louis so far, and while it was great to hear the two tracks played live, if I had a choice I would have loved to have heard Cities Of Light and Quiet City, or even Europe After The Rain (which I know is in the live selection) and The Garden, but just being there was mind-blowing enough, so I couldn't have cared what the setlist was. After 26 years (I actually got into John's solo material with The Garden rather than Metamatic) ... what can you say but just a huge 'thanks' to John & Louis for the opportunity.

Cheers ...

You should have said something! I would have offered to put you up at my place.

However, there was no way I was going to miss this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and it was absolutely worth evey minute.
DITTO!

I've made a complete arse of myself with my camera, but here're three blurry photos anyway:
You weren't the only one! I was out drinking beforehand and wasn't quite sober when the show started. I didn't realise until a little later that the autofocus on my cameras wasn't working because it was too dim. So I had a lot of poor quality shots.

After I realised, I had to fiddle in the dark with the silly Fuji camera to switch it to manual focus. Even then, if I used flash, the images would look too hard and if I didn't the images had other problems because of the lack of front lighting (presumably to prevent the projected video from washing out). Oh Well!

I wonder if the guys in front of me had better luck with their camera phones? Those either have pinhole or meniscus lenses, so no focus issues.

The attendance was pretty good ... about 150-175, although 160 was closer to the actual figure, but it was enough to make the theatre look reasonably full. The sound was tremendous, and although the material is familiar from the previously released live CDs, it was fantastic to finally get to experience it first-hand.
I figured it was around 200 with seating for about 300. I didn't bother doing a proper head count though. People were still walking in after the show started, however.
