Be-Be-Be-Beat Boy gets the Cherry Red CD issue treatment. As far as I’m aware, this will be the first time the album has ever been on CD.

I’ve no idea if it’s a reissue of the vinyl mix or the cassette mix...and as it's a Cherry Red release, I've no idea if it's a transfer from the original studio tapes or recorded by taping a microphone to a cassette player so that when the soothing ambient intro to Yesterday's Shadow starts up you can hear your dad in the background telling you to turn that sh*t off and come downstairs because your dinner's ready. wink

Play.com give a listing, and includes as bonus tracks;

Beat Boy - Dance Mix
Love Glove - Long Version
She's A Machine
Der Amboss

Which are all previously available on the two Visage compilations.

The sleeve design is different too and uses the US version.

I used to copy Steve's make up from that sleeve before hitting the town. laugh

The slimmed down Visage of 'Beat Boy' saw a disappointing follow up to The Anvil. They were yet another band who were struggling for direction once futurism was passe. And like Garry I don't hold much confidence about the sound quality of this release after Cherry Red's efforts with The Anvil. But it should still be worth getting. Just about.

Cherry Red managed to re-release Classix Nouveaux albums on CD fairly well. I haven't listen them in "critical mode" using my golden Hi-Fi ears but as far as I remember CD:s sound OK. Lots of B-sides are included but booklets aren't nothing to talk about.

Didn't buy 'The Anvil' re-release CD since I've got the original CD from 80s. It sounds good.

I hope you mastered the art of applying your purple blusher nice and symmetrically. It wasn't always easy. Particularly after a litre of Merrydown. laugh

"Can you hear me?"...

Another update - I was in a record shop last night and they had the CD reissue of Beat Boy - the sleeve design is actually the UK/European version and not the US/South America version as advertised.

The sleeve notes are as dull as the ones that accompany The Anvil but towards the end they do state in bold something about the recording being sourced from the master tapes. In between the sleeve notes are the lyrics.

I still have no idea if it's the vinyl edition or the cassette edition that they've re-mastered, but as this re-issue doesn't feature Reprise at the end I assume it's the standard edition same as the vinyl.

Casette-version of 'Beat Boy' would have been nice. I've never heard it.

Almost every track on the cassette version has been mixed and lengthened - the version of Beat Boy is much better - the intro builds better than the vinyl edition. The other tracks are allowed to open up and breathe a little Can You Hear Me being one of them. It's well worth seeking out if you can find it.

I lost my copy a few years ago, but did record it onto Mini-Disc beforehand...now I can't find the damn Mini-Disc! laugh

Has anyone received a copy of 'Beat Boy' yet? I received an e-mail from Amazon earlier saying that it has been delayed and its arrival is expected some time between the 9th and 23rd March.

As RadioBeach has seen it in a shop this hold-up seems lax. confused
