smile Hi to all,
I've recently put a new track on Soundclick, so here's some hopefully interesting info about my latest creative doodling.

It's titled 'Escape To Your Dreams Until Morning' and is intended as a musical meditation with just a little bit of an edge to it. Once again I decided to abandon the guitars and synths and instead I've used a variety of quite unusual all-acoustic instruments, played with the traditional hands and mouth, and recorded using a half-decent microphone, while being processed with painstakenly chosen, sympathetic effects to enhance the atmosphere.

Instruments used in order of appearance are:
Tibetan Tingsha's, Tibetan Singing Bowl, Copper Goatbell Tri-cluster (from Sweden), Layered Choral Voices, Hammered 12-string Box Zither, Spoken Voice, Magic Mushroom Woodflute (hand carved by flute maker Blue Deer Spirit) and, last but not least, the Cello (after which, the Tibetan and Swedish hand percussion elements then re-appear at the end).

I've had these instruments for a while now, but this is the first time I've recorded with them. It isn't perfect but then neither am I wink . I wanted a very human feel to this anyway, which hopefully comes across, so with this in mind the Zither was played straight through in one take and the flute was improvised free-form and also recorded in one take.

Here's the link to my music page if you'd like to give it a spin now that you've read these details:
http://www.soundclick.com/bands/page_music.cfm?bandID=662928

I've also created a new abstract image (from my own original photography) to go with the track. You can see a larger version if you jump to my member profile page and scroll down quickly to the slide-show (you can stop the slide-show moving if you want to, by just clicking on an image within it).

Thanks for reading this far and please feel free to give me your thoughts.

Hope you enjoy the sounds from my inner space, folks!

Hi there, Garden.
Ahh, now I understand why you're an Enoid, using a half-decent microphone! wink Other references I heard were Biosphere and Holger Czuckay. But that's a thought coming fom my narrow mind, to get a grip on something new I'm hearing. And it's meant as a compliment.
I like the atmosphere very much, it fits the title properly ...
And like you said, it's edgy. It's got lightness and darkness in it, so it also fits your artists name.
The sounds come and go fluidly, in a 'logical' order, that's the way it feels anyway. At the end (hearing it on my notebook) the Tibetan Tingsha's seem to stop rather abruptly. Was that on purpose?
I'm going back now to your music page, 'cause I read the name Bill Nelson somewhere, another hero of mine (seems we got similar taste).
And when there's a cd coming out, I will be the first to buy it! It's that good for me.
Regards, Lody. laugh

Hi again Lody
cool Many thanks indeed for listening and taking the time to reply in detail. Nice references you've listed and I certainly take it as a compliment.

It's great to hear how this comes across to others, as generally when I make music I try not to have particular influences in mind and try to do my own thing, although of course there are many of them in there somewhere, as I've been influenced by umpteen artists and music styles over the years, some of them very different to each other. Ultimately though, I hope the final outcome is more myself than anyone else.

confused The sound at the very end is actually the Swedish goatbells, which comes just after the Tibetan Tingsha's and the Tibetan Singing Bowl return (just after the Cello). They should fade out nicely as the track comes to an end, but maybe that's more noticeable on headphones and also maybe a little is lost with the conversion to mp3 (the original sounds more detailed).

laugh Yes, I'm a huge Bill Nelson fan too and as you'll see from the info on my main artist page, I've been lucky enough to contribute original tracks to two Bill Nelson tribute CDs in the past and one of these, called "The Eternal Light of Will", is on my Soundclick page (there's also some info at the bottom of that main page regarding associations from the past that may possibly be of interest to you – one relating in a small way to John Foxx/Ultravox).

In fact, this current track "Escape to Your Dreams…" was recorded as part of a project to celebrate Bill's 60th birthday last week. Tracks from various artists in Dreamsville have been burnt to cdr and packaged with special cover artwork as a one off and the cd has been sent to Bill as a birthday gift. Nice to be involved and it'd be great to know what Bill thought of all the tracks, but obviously he keeps that sort of thing close to his chest, with good reason.

wink I must say that I'm happy and humbled that you've expressed an interest in buying my CD when it's released and it's worth letting you know that I'm intending it to be a 'real' pressed cd with proper printed cover (ie: NOT a cdr) and it'll also be a limited edition of a reasonable number that makes it worth all the effort, time and money that I've put in up to now.

Thanks again for your thoughts Lody,
Garden smile
