Anyone else want to contribute by making a list of lightweight synth pop classics ? Music to dance round handbags too rather than John's more cerebral stuff I'll start with this masterpiece BALLET DANcER TWINS http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=t3ZmTPyYT7Y restored version http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xvP3wofsyoo Anyone know anything about them They strike me as being Yello's trendier cousins !!

Lightweight? I hardly think so. This is a bona fide classic - in a different league to the above by a milliion Applies to both Men Without Hats and Flock of Seagulls. They are just so not crap...

and here's today's 'lightweight' offering pop-pickers...well just about as lightweight as a teutonic combo could ever get Alphaville - Big in Japan ..the 'oriental' sounds give it that extra kitsch factor.... Not 'arf!

Excellent effort! Thanks for putting this together. I'd like to add the following to bring us up to ten Patrick Hernandez - Born to be ALive http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=BVgM7qeAlko and Leif Garrett - I Was Made For Dancing http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=Hihp_Jjdnsg although I now wonder if these are 'synth' tracks...?

I'll second what Martin says Membs That collage is sterling work indeed I think that makes you my candidate for "Metamatic Poster of the Year 2008 " just shading out the Lord Lucanesque Lody Herst who disappears for decades on end then posts 200 replies in 5 minutes , into secondplace Anyway .some additions If we can have two songs by the same group I'm voting for Alphaville too , with this http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=uxUJPry5CTE&feature=PlayList&p=41C42A3DF3C3DC46&playnext=1&index=37 And this Seems like only yesterday I saw these Brummie unknowns supporting Hazel O connor at Lancaster Uni Well I've got my mascara ,lippy , checkered dishcloth and ten Mars Bars I'm ready for my Simon Le Bon "Stars in their Eyes " experience http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N_YSWY0sEug

Ok ta muchly: all requested tracks already added to ver list . .including Martin's which are in fact not strictly synth but hey it's Christmas and we don't want to get too typecast do we ???? Ta Ivan for the extra added Alphaville and of course the Durannies' opera prima which deserves a look-in even tho those lyrics aren't really light-weight n'est-ce pas?.. "I heard you making patterns rhyme" ..phew ! Sounds like Metamtic meets The Blitz! Party on chaps! post scritum: and whilst you're on ver Tube.. take a peep at this........... (shameless plug for my foxx / gordon 'home' video recently published and not much viewed..)

Just realised we're near the end of the party and haven't had a 'smoocher' yet So here's Vince Clarke in his second synth-incarnation with 'mate' 'Alf' ..... grab you partners: Yazoo - Only You

Did Peter Jackson direct this? is that guy meant to be Legolas? is this a trailer for The Hobbit? is that crazy blond woman Galadriel? is the little guy in the pointy hat Bilbo Baggins? I'm never going to get any sleep now unless I get an answer to the madness of the safety dance...
