Oh I *hate* autobahn on The Mix -
all the squelchy grainy phasey echoplexing of the original is replaced by a silly cartoon version.

The ones I quite like on The Mix are Pocket Calculator, Homecomputer and Musique Non Stop, which I felt worked pretty well given a harder, cleaner more modern production.

Well spotted, although I remember a similar one on Radio 2 a year or two ago.

If I'm honest (big if) I'm not too keen on Autobahn full stop. I know it is an important development and all that ...

Ha ha! No, it's just that one song really. No need to panic just yet.

i recently got a copy of the box set (CD version) for £62 on Amazon. Pretty good for 8 CD's plus the extras I would say.

Firstly, upon playing, the CD's are mastered louder. Switching between the original version and the remaster you have to turn the volume knob a fair bit to get them the same.
Secondly, the remastering is very good. The tracks sound "tighter" and more detailed. Even on the more recent releases "The Mix" and "TdefF" these differences are easily heard. (Mind you I'm a fan of these CD's in the first place).
I agree with the comments that the bass has been "turned up" in some places as compared to the originals. I think Herr Hutter has gone for a more dance/club sound, the foot taps a bit more energetically for sure.

That's why I think the remasters are disappointing. Too much bass all round. They should be clear, crisp, clean & pin-sharp, especially 'Computerworld'.

That's the only one I can really find fault with. I've neglected Techno-Pop, Man Machine and most of the others at present because I've fallen head over heels in love with Radio-Activity again, which I feel has benefitted from the clean-up operation - Autobahn also.
